We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

I'm returning to first check in and say I hope those left in this world who know me and even those who don't but are part of this community are doing ok during these trying times with Covid-19. It's been ages it feels like. Miss you all! I'm doing ok myself . Ups and downs and constant financial difficulties but hey thats part of life for many of us right? heh.. I'm happy for each day that comes my way and hoping we all can say the same. Well onto my post.. So I am not sure if anyone will see this as it seems the forums are pretty seldom used these days but I'm going to try anyways because I wanted some opinions if by chance anyone has any knowledge on the matter. Maybe some of you are aware that because of covid there was a shortage in supply of transdermal estrogen products the last 6 months and in particular for the transdermal patches. I looked up why and apparently it was not the estrogen itself but had to do with the adhesive/ binding agent that... less

Pueraria Mirifica has been discussed and I'm conviced it has some serious merit. Feel free to discuss the legal hormone regimen requirements of SRS and how these requirements may infringe on the right of vegans to pursue SRS. I do not want a debate about plant-based versus animal-based hormones because us true ethical vegans are going to work strictly within the boundaries of using products that are ethically derived without animal enslavement regardless of the naysayers who incorrectly claim that there are no effective botanicals. I have a general suspicion that most pharmaceuticals are animal derived products. Yes, I know people will tell me they are largely synthesized but that is not a simple truth. Syntheisization is not a clear indication of beong plant-derived or animal free. And most medicines come in gelatine capsules... less

Names like Black Cohosh, Rhodeola Rosea and Maca all sound viable. But what are the dangers and can you mix and match? What are the time periods like compared to standard HRT?

I found an endo and when I tried to get referred they told me I had to go to a place called CAMH in Toronto Ontario. That would be fine except they have an almost 2 year wait!! I called them to see if I could get in any faster and was given some very helpful info. So this Thursday I will be going to a trans friendly GP to start my journey and I am just wondering what to expect? Am i going to be sat down and just talked to or will I maybe see blood work ordered? I have heard many say that i probably won't get any meds on the first visit but I don't want to wait any longer. I have waited this long, Im almost 40 now so i think i know what i want. less

I have been on IM estradiol since January 2017 and the progress has been slow going. For the majority of the time I have been injecting into my thigh area. Here recently I decided to change to my hip area to see if that would make a difference. What I believe was happening is my body is burning off the shot in the thigh too quickly and the levels drop precipitously before it has had a chance to do its magic. The last time I had some blood work done was back in early april in my estradiol was off the charts at 1800+pg/mL I am going back to her in July to discuss this with her but I just wanted to get some differing idea and to see if anyone else has gone through anyting similar. less

Is it possible to use an OTC estrogen in order to start HRT? Or must it be a doctor appointed prescription?

Second, I started testosterone blockers back in August/September. I like what they have done and continue to do for me. On Thursday I've got an appointment with the endrocrinolgist that works with people who want to under go HRT. I'm very excited to do so but at the same time nervous about the appointment. I don't know as much as I'd like to about what options there are today. As well, I do have a health plan at work but if I have them pay for the blockers and hormones do they get a report of what medications I'm prescribed that they pay for? If they did then I'd either pay for anything myself or wait until I'm more ready to come out at work.
Anybody have experience with health insurance, prescriptions and reports in Canada? less

I take my hormones in the morning and vitamin d3 at night. the weird thing is after I take it,about one hour later I get breast tenderness.I did some research and found others have had this happen too.further research also comes up as vitamin d3 is not a vitamin but a hormone. Has anyone here tried this and had the same breast tenderness.

I am looking for more information from people's experiences on using a menstrual cycle for periodically adjusting the estrogen level in a cyclical manner. I find that using a standard X mg of estradiol is not really working for me (I have been on hormones for 18 years and went full-time legally 17 years ago), in that I see evidence of estrogen insensitivity after so many years of using the same dosage. I am mostly through my first cycle (where the secondary peak comes after the interim bottom before bottoming out at the end of the cycle), and I see major results already. Not only the enlarged breast development, but just how I feel and think.
Maybe it's not evident yet, but I've already hit the very high peak of the cycle and bottomed out at the interim for a day, and I don't seem to feel a difference towards the negative side, like being moody or crying. I noticed that on a lower, stable dosage, being post-orchie for 10... less

I've been using herbs for the past 18 months and had some good results, some tissue growth, growth of milk ducks and lactation in both breasts. I'm now at the stage where I want fat redistibution and shape so I was wondering if anyone had any advice regarding which hormones are best and what kind of transition regime would be the most safe & effective.
Many thanks
