We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

My shoe size has gone down 1 size but it has before when i was over weight and the girth of my foot decressed due to the bloating ,this to me is not shocking. what is things i used to be able to reach i cant, things i used to be able to see over i cant now. I guess the las person she knew hurt her after starting hormones, she doesn't talk much about it but she did talk to me last night how upset she is over finding that.
First I am just wondering though if that kind of thing really works for things like breast and hip growth?
Second has anyone who has gone through hormone therapy noticed any change in the feelings about their significant other due to the hormones?
Third any ideas on how to talk to her about this without upsetting her, or ending up with either or both of us crying, cause I already talked a little about it and it ended with us both in tears about it. less
Need some advice or at least some... moreHi there!
Need some advice or at least some comments..
After my last blood test, my endo sent a letter to my GP suggesting that things like Finasteride were weak anti-androgens and unlikely to have much effect on me (currently on 2.5mg Oestrogel plus Finasteride 1mg).
He's suggesting that I be given Goserelin (Zalodex) as a depot injection (comes in 1 and 3 month varieties, pellet injected under the skin below the belly button) as this would reduce my T levels to almost nothing. I've never heard of Goserelin but I've been reading up on it.
Anyone had any experience of this anti-androgen? Good or bad?

Basically I am trying to grow the biggest nipples and areolas I can but to have tiny breasts. I want to still live and work as a male but with feminine nipples and very small breasts. I am self medicating with hormones from Canada. I am currently on Estrace 2mg 3 times a day and Progesterone micronized 100mg once daily.
I am aware of the dangers of self medicating and accept the risks.
Any recommendations on hormone regimes or other methods to encourage nipple growth. I still want a very small breast, really just the feminine shape and small development of breast.
Thank you. less

My name is Christine new to the forum but I wanted to dive in here and ask a question. I just started taking Siterone 25mg daily but have heard that Oestrogel, otherwise known as (17-Beta Estradiol), is better and safer than Siterone. Is the risk for DVT high or low for Oestrogel. I tried taking estrogen a few years ago but I got this persistent pain in the middle of my chest my doctor said was non cardiac related but didn't really know why the estrogen was causing it so I stopped taking it. I think I was taking the synthetic form of estradiol. I'm hoping the Oestrogel won't give me the same problem. less

I'm a migrant from the TrueSelves forum, as it is currently having (and has been having for about a month now) some issues processing my account. But enough about that.
I suppose I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about "informed consent" perscriptions. I can't seem to find any doctors in my area that operate under anything but the old fashioned "gate keeping" method of hormone and anti-androgen assignment, and being that I don't fit so neatly into one of their little check boxes, I've been denied treatment going the traditional route of therapist>endocrinologist>etc.
So basically, **** them. But I don't want to spend the rest of my life DIYing, without any form of safety net or medical support. Plus, a perscription would be much much cheaper than ordering the stuff from abroad.
So I've bee DIY for about 3 or 4 months now, and from what I've read you need to have some kind of bloodwork done about every 6-8weeks. The dosage is low, and I'm watching my... less

I was born a female with broad shoulders and narrow hips. Although I am already a female, I was wondering if taking a drug like propecia could make my shoulders narrower and my hips wider? I read men transitioning to become women need to take the drug about 3 years to feminize their body? Will the effects stay permanent after men stop the drug at 3 years? Could I stop the drug sooner than 3 years since I probably have more estrogen in me as a woman? I do not know if my body can become more feminine since I will not have a drastic decline in testosterone, which stimulates a man's body to produce lots of estrogen? less

Just a side point but could be relevent i do have what is considered a intersex condition (klienfielters) and as a result i had a very long and delayed puberty infact i never fully underwent it, i devloped gynomastia at 13 and even when i was 2 stone underweight i still could never wear tight t-shirts due to my breasts. My blood test (pre hormones)was more in the female range than male, and i did take black cosh for a while (although it did nothing).
But since starting on the hormones my muscles have all but disapeared (was never huge but had defination) my skin is much softer, i moved my aircon unit into my living room 3 weeks ago now i cant even lift it, my breasts have got much larger and my hips and bum are clearly visable.

Obv we're all different but it would be good to build a sort of general picture of what I might expect and when........also are the efeects irreversable without surgery? in cae I have a sudden change of mind or some sort of medical/allergic reaction or something.

I will of course throw it iin the garbage. However the problem is it was addressed to my male name and I wonder how they knew I was transgendered as all business re these matters on the net are iin my female name. less

Just a wild guess there lol but it has been many years to get to this point. Well I'm off to the races now and already feel a weight has been lifted off me.
My question is this. I am over 40 and wanted to do the safest form so decided on transdermal Estrodot 100 to start. I am shying away from anti-androgens for now. They just scare me a bit and I figure to start I would just begin with a straight E regime. My thinking is since I'm older my T levels should be dropping already naturally. For example morning erections are non-existent and have been quite a few years. As I understand estrogen can and will lower T levels to female levels alone but it takes more time. Am I way off on this? So many people are so anti-androgen positive out there. They seem like a pretty serious med to me. I plan on getting an endo blood test in 5 or 6 weeks... less
