We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. What effect does female hormone therapy have on a male, and how... moreWhat effect does female hormone therapy have on a male, and how soon?
The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

We all approach things in different ways and in my case it was just go but looking through some of the posts on this subject I can see it causes some girls problems but I have to ask why at times.
I have had my share of ignorance from a few but I just delt with it the way I thought best at the time and it worked.
Example: About a week after an article had been published about me I was in Tesco , a friend of mine was on the checkout and when I spoke to her I could see she was upset , I asked her what was wrong and she would not tell me , I asked why and she just said I cannot repeat what that man just said about you , I asked which man and she pointed him out to me.
It was not so much what he had said that bothered my it was the fact he had upset a friend of mine "BIG MISTAKE" So I walked over to him and asked him what his problem was? He repied... less

My shoulders are broad I think and I have man boobs - no need for fake breasts then.
I wonder if there were any ways a man with broad shoulders could disquise their size, as I believe most women have smaller shoulders.

I was originally planning to grow out until I could get a bob, but I'm not sure how much longer I can get away with letting the hair grow. Thus, I've decided to poke around about shorter hair styles that look feminine.
My hair is about to my chin from the front. I have a widow's peak. And in the back the hair goes down to about my shirt collar.
There is a picture of me sans wig in one of my albums if reference is required to make a good suggestion.

With confidence in my makeup looks and a nice outfit (striped skirt, red jacket), I picked up a take-out order two towns over, 20 miles round trip in a 1-ton cargo van...it was 830PM.
Nervous getting out of my neighborhood (everyone knows that van). Nervous about police stopping me for???? or a minor car accident? Felt completely normal in the clothes I was wearing, though. Certainly not a "muted" look, so it might attract attention to myself...oh, dear....
Got to the restaurant and there was a guy with tattoos changing his t-shirt, I parked a couple rows ahead. Just as I was getting my shoulderbag together (money in bag not wallet!), a very large pickup truck pulled in behind me, one space over. Engine running, lights on. WTF!! I waited a few minutes to see what they are going to do; meanwhile, about 7 "18-20 somethings" finished their bantering in the car beside me and left. Mild panic. Then, a-ha! I got my cell phone,... less

OK, so I've decided to actually go outside at night (movie theatre?). My dressing plan is "casual": dress, or skirt and blouse, sweater, black tights. I bought some really nice booties by Diba. I like the look of leather booties with dresses and skirts, and they would work with jeans as well. It is cool at night in New England. and I was going to wear my nomex flight jacket (it's like new condition) to "dress down" a little. But I found a dk red Ann Taylor short p-coat at a vintage store for $5! Exactly what I was looking for but afraid to be too dressed-up for a movie? Or do I stand around looking at my watch like I've been stood-up? Now I'm getting nervous.....

I'm a crossdresser, not a transsexual.
Anyway, I always dress as a woman my age would dress, maybe coming home from the office. So that was sensible court shoes, calf length pencil skirt, blouse, and a long-ish raincoat. Topped off with a long dark brown wig.
I never want to draw attention to myself, so I always dress smart but never tarty.
Tarty does absolutely nothing for me.
Anyway, this was at night, around 8pm. It was dark, but there were street lamps. I just wanna say how vunerable I felt out on my own at night. Not because I felt some teenage kid might shout, 'hey, you're a man!'. But I was frightened in case some guy attacked me, thinking I was a woman.
It really is frightening walking those streets at night. I don't know how women do it.
I've never done it since. One, beause I have put some weight on in the last three years and wouldn't look right in my ladies... less

Now please do not judge me for this post.
My simple thought is " just how important is it to pass in public"?
Is it better to accept that one will never pass and therefore to put all thoughts of what you look like aside and just go out as you are?
Time and tide has done its worst for me and I know even with my best rose coloured glasses on there is no way anyone could mistake me for anything other than what I am, masculin looking.
Recently I have been taking note of some of the older females I see. I note the way they are dressed and what they look like. All of them of what ever age have a female look about them. Their features are smaller than your average male and most of them have hair that covers their shortend forehead.
I am letting my hair grow and it is nearly to the bottom of my ears. But I can't hide my high forehead and my widows peeks. My top hair is quite thin though I try to add a bit of body by fluffing it up and have adopted a central... less

I won't bore you with my entire personal story, but recently I have been unsatisfied with simply crossdressing. I'm considering shaping my body to be more feminine, and even possibly starting a form of hormone treatment in the future. Therein lies the problem.
I was born to a family with a long line of tall, bulky males. Luckily I got more of my mother, but I'm still a lot bigger than I would like to be - 5'10, 165 lbs. I'm really scared to ask my sisters (I'm still too shy to come out), but what I need help on is dieting tips.
Basically, I want to slim up significantly to see if it's even feasible for me to continue this. I've been on a lot of diets before, calorie-based, but I'm wondering if there are any tricks I can use to shape my male body? Should I aim for a specific calorie count? Should I eat some specific types of foods? Also, most importantly, what exercises can I do to stay slim and not build any unwanted... less
Also does anyone know of anything that doesn't look like industrial 1950's foundation wear? Or alternatively know someone who could make something that has a design and possibly something less boring?
I'm currently using an extra padded Rago item that has slots for hip and bum which is my own concoction.

I retired from my corporate managerial job 11 years ago. I had a close GG friend there who I knew first as an employee of mine, though were were more work partners than boss/associate. We were friends and were there for each other during her divorce and my breakup with my long time girlfriend. We were co-workers, friends and confidents. I sponsored her for an upgrade to higher position which my boss and District Manager opposed. This caused me office political grief, but when a corpoarte HR person was brought in and evaluated her, she was promoted. Later I sponsored her for promotion to being a full manager. I had no input to that decision but eventually she was management. Our relationship was strictly platonic, but we regularly had dinner together at one of our houses. I confided to her that I was transgendered, but she never saw me as Melody.
