We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..

To the rest of the world I and some like minded people extend our sincere apology. A segment of our population has been coerced into electing a monster. If we're lucky we will get rid of him as quickly as possible. Hopefully, what damage has been done can be repaired. Again our apologies to all.

Dissapointed that Corbyn who had no chance of ever winning a majority promised to basically tax the investors in the economy, who provided jobs and security to the nation and price them out of business, when you are not faced with sticking to imposible pledges and illogical promises you made during campaigning, no worries, BUT the younger people, stupidly thought Ah ha this is for us, lots of freebies. Lord arrives at the house of Lords, by taxi, keeps the taxi waiting while he literaly runs into the parliament building signs in to qualify for his £300 attendance fee and then imediately leaves, hops back in the taxi and is spirited away. It would be interesting to know!!! if he will claim the expenses for the taxi to heap even more shame on this elitist disgrace to fair play and democracy, What a waste of space these people are.
Then there are those that sign in, to again qualify for their £300, only to take business cronies to the subsidised restaurants to discuss their own personal businesses most of these have probably never even attended the house of lords on legitimate goverment business. The sooner they get rid of this house of unelected jollies the better. less

I have read with interest articles about this weekend's Trump protests marches, and of how women have garnered the conviction to voice their views.
Two thoughts for discussion here;
Firstly, I am envious of the conviction, confidence and basic drive that women across the world have and reflect upon the absence of a masculine equivalent. Obviously feminism exists due to the absence of equivalence and has been provoked here by an uninvited grope from a dope, but it's a gender that feels clearer, more coherent and frankly awake than its masculine opposite. I am envious and applaud not from a desire to be an active participant but just for the commonality courage and compassion that is evident.
Secondly though, I reflect upon our community and of how we may or are judged by all including women and feminists. Do you aspire too and feel that trans-women can be accurately defined as feminists, would you describe yourself as one and have you been confronted with warmth or the cold-shoulder by women who... less

Personally the man was nieve, conceited, imoral and The Arrogant Etonian, failed us, like Margaret Thatcher, sold of our national assets, privatised the only profitable parts of the NHS and other national interest to favour the few rich and powerful, forsaking the ordinary tax payers, his private view that we were phlebs, a common word bandied about by his cronies. He went to Brussels, making demands, was prepared to settle for half a cake, came back with a few crumbs thinking he could keep the majority of perceived stupid and ignorant Brits happy.

It called for some quite radical reforms to the way that Government and public services interact with the transgender community.
Since then there has been a deafening silence from the Government, until today.

I'd love to think that this was a positive thing - "Wow, there's so much stuff here to think about, and it's so important to get it right, that we're going to need a while longer to make it all happen'.
Sadly experience leads me to believe it's more probably 'Four months down the line, and this hasn't gone away. Let's try a few more months and see if that does it'.
One of those occasions when I'd dearly love to be proven wrong.

I don't think this comes as any surprise as citizens are beginning to say 'enough is enough' and are becoming fed up of further immigrantion, which has to be paid for by themselves as taxpayers. They would rather see the money spent elsewhere.
Europe isn't inherently racist and is used to seeing other nations cross their borders, indeed, it make sa lot of tourist revenue from this, but it is fed up with too many foriegners settling in their respective countries with no intent to integrate but with every intention to get whatever they can from the welfare system. Germany, where I live, is still shaking it's collective head in Angela Merkels intention to allow 1, 000,000 immigrants in, in spite of having 2,5 million Germans unemployed. There is concern over where they will live, how will they work, (Immigrants have to hold a language fluency certificate before they can work), how... less

The way I think of what Europe thinks of the UK is a silly thing called The Eurovision Song Contest. We pay (The UK) the largest amount to put the contest on yet it does not matter how good the song is we always come bottom. Adele is British and has sold millions of records in Europe and the world but even if she was performing for the UK we would still come bottom. It is not about the singer or the song Europe just hates us.
Brussels tells us what to do and it costs us billions for the privilege , those billions could be better spent sorting our country out and having control of our borders would not be a bad thing , we are full and have not got the infrastucture to cope with anymore migrants (That is not racist it is realism).

What is happening to this country I live in where I'm more ashamed than proud? (Ashamed: Bush for 8 years, gun-toting fanatics who are against regulations, unlawful wars, anti-LGBTQ backwards thinking people, rampant racism to include institutional racism. Proud: a black/mixed race president, federal law allowing gay marriage--but watch the video to see rampant discrimination even though it is now a right)
Please go to the site, read the article, WATCH the very informative, easy-to-understand, upsetting video. When it's shown to you like that (the map, etc), it's sickening.
Regarding the article/Mississippi law, hooray for Bryan Adams for cancelling his tour there. Let's hope celebrities and performers boycott these places...don't give these states your business until things change for the better.

Living in the UK which is a tiny over crowded island compared to other land mass countries I am trying to figure out how our government is going to house them.
I have a disabled friend who lives in a tiny bedsit and has been on the local housing list for 9 years , they tell her we have no property's available. I know she has a roof over her head but it is not really ideal for a disabled person. What I would like to know is where are these migrants that our government is going to let in going to live?.
This is not racism it is realism. We have family's stuggling to live a basic life in this country , working family's having to use food banks and having to make a choice between food or heat.
