We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Did they help you with whatever problem you discussed with them - for instance, coming out, counselling with your partner, helping you to understand your feelings about yourself. Let us know the name of any counsellors you have seen and your location so that other people seeking help in this way have an idea of who to see and (possibly) who to avoid. less

I have a person in my care who identifies as a FtM transgender that is on the brink of suicide and as a devout Christian i am really trying to prevent them from doing so. This person has special intensive care needs and is highly dependant on me for their survival. They have no one else who can care for these very special needs of theirs so it's very complicated situation.
They won't listen to me because i don't identify as transgender so they just say i couldn't possibly understand anything about them. That's why i need your help. I need the help of another who identifies as transgender because it's someone they can feel they can relate to and someone that can sympathise with them. Also, someone that could understand both sides of our situation.
Please don't tell me that I'm causing their problems by being Christian they have admitted that they would already have commited suicide 100x over if it wasn't everything i have done for them. They admit that... less

Will we get so much resentment and negativity, pushing the boundaries, we allready have recognition and rights in law, will none trans people take advantage of choosing a facilty for devious purposes ., when we go to try on clothes, find tell tale stains on garments? I’m getting in touch on behalf of a group of people working on a new trans representation in the media survey built on the 2010 Trans Media Watch survey 'How Transgender People Experience the Media' as attached.
Along with Jennie Kermode, author of the previous survey, All About Trans has been working with Sarah Lennox, Josephine Shaw and me on an updated survey, seeing what has changed in 7 years. What impact does the media have on trans people’s lives today? How can trans advocacy organisations make a difference?
We’re asking trans* and gender questioning adults – 18 years plus – to take the survey. Open only until Monday 31st July, the anonymous survey takes a little time to complete, but is an excellent opportunity to express how the media might affect you or your family. Findings will be shared in September.
The survey is linked here: https://kclbs.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3WMbgv6RJwjTsgd
We would be very grateful if you could help filling this survey. Would you also... less

Also, just started on cable, at 9pm on Thursdays is series detailing the Stonewall riots, so this looks good.
And Jazz is back on cable as well.
So some good viewing on British TV to look forward to.

I am currently studying for a qualification in education and, as a part of my main project I would like some input from the tg population with regard to a quiz that I have developed:
I am interested to see if any particular data drops out of this from tg participants. Please note - This is not a COGIATI style test and is simply looking at education.

So what!, The advantages of being self employed.. A self employed person has no direct employer to top up their NI contributions, which indirectly reflects on the wages/salary they are paid as opposed to someone on PAYE, (pay as you earn)
Self employed people have all sorts of tax relief that people on PAYE don't get. PAYE people cannot claim expenses, for travel to work, clothes for work, dry cleaning, percentages of their utilites for operating a business from home. Mobile phones costs, road tax and insurance for vehicles used during the course of their business, maintenance costs. My travel Card costs me £1,892 per anum, Tax deductable, big chunk for those who work for companies on PAYE. I also have a private pension plan and accident cover, also tax deductable, those on PAYE now the government has a policy that... less

ok. so firstly let me be clear, i am not transgender, but i am somewhat familiar with the feelings that the transgender population have since i am somewhat alike, unlike feeling like a female traped in a male body, i strongly feel like a 2-4 year old child stuck inside a 40 year olds body. Now before anyone jumps to conclusions and shouts AB (Adult baby) i will say the following, based on the consensis that is an "adult baby" NO.
let me explain.
The main prospect to AB's is a sexual attraction to diapers, this means that the term AB is classed as a fetish.
what makes me different is.
i have no sexual drive, None what so ever, i cannot abide sexual intercourse, nor do i conform to any form of personal satisfaction. as such i do not fall into the same catagory as AB's.
i have been having therapy for the last year, and appear to suffer from some sort of DID, (Dissasociate identity disorder) although, the official diagnosis is long away.
Anyway, i though i would come on here and ask a... less

My name is Ben and I am currently completing my PhD at Kingston University. Gender expression, trans issues, equality issues are all issues close to my heart and have always been at the forefront of my research.
I am currently doing some research into low level, everyday experiences of abuse and hate crime targeting the trans community.
I am in the middle of piloting a survey and would appreciate any responses by anyone who has the time and this may be of interest too. There is a question at the end asking for feedback on the survey.
It should take around 20 minutes to complete and you can withdraw at any time. The link is below and thank you in advance for anyone who has the time to complete the survey.
