We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

To those who remember me from a few years ago, I've dropped in to say Hi to everyone, to apologise for my long-term absence, and to let you know what's been happening in my life, since I was last here.

You might have seen this floating around on Facebook or Twitter already, but I am currently doing research into Gender Dysphoria and am in need of respondents to take a short survey.
If you define as trans, genderqueer, neutrois or anything other than the gender which you were assigned at birth please consider responding. It is very short, and should only take 5-10 minutes of your time.
The project is attempting to find out whether there is any link between Gender Dysphoria and the Autistic Spectrum. There is an explanation of the research project on the page, but if you have any further questions please do feel free to email me .I'm particularly interested in UK residents, so I hope you guys can help me out :)

It also states that FFS and abdominoplasty/body resculpturing can also be included.
Appendix 4 reads as follows:-Facial hair reduction
The reduction of facial hair is seen as an essential part of gender reassignment for a trans-woman to facilitate the period of living in the gender role that is congruent with the individual’s gender identity before genital reassignment surgery. The absence of facial hair is of psychological benefit and will produce a greater well-being for the patient as there should be little or no need to remove hair on a constant basis. It is recommended that facial hair removal should commence prior to social gender role transition, as the beard must grow to visible lengths to be removed. Posted by Zoe O'Connell in Equality on 24 April 2012
I’m coming a couple of days late to this as the Daily Mail thoughtlessly published their piece whilst I was offline at the weekend, but it’s still worth a blog post to clarify the issues. According to an article they’ve run, (Caution: Daily Mail Link) Doctors are being “forced to carry out sex change ops” under “new guidelines” by the General Medical Council. (GMC)
(Edited to add: The GMC guidance is available on their web site. (PDF Link). The relevant piece is the footnote to paragraph 5 on page 3)
Firstly, these are very specialised surgeries and you can’t just rock up to an operating theatre and carry one out without quite a bit of training and it’s not an area one accidentally stumbles into. I only know the surgeons practising vaginoplasty (I.e. for transwomen) but there are perhaps two or three... less

What is wrong with simply asking that person who they would prefer to be searched by??Full report in Pink News:- http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2013/04/22/uk-deputy-lib-dem-leader-really-disappointed-at-ips-rejection-of-trans-and-intersex-inclusive-passports/ less
I wondering what other people's experiences are regarding the NHS... moreHallo everyone,
I wondering what other people's experiences are regarding the NHS pathway.
My GP has referred me to the CMHT (Community Mental Health Team) because the NHS Pathway apparently requires that an assessment is undertaken before referral to CX. The idea is to find out if there are any underlying mental health issues. In my case, I've seen a few psychiatrists over the past 25 years about my trans issues and there were no underlying issues found. I don't feel I need such an assessment. However, since asking my GP about getting on the NHS route to CX and being referred to CMHT, I've had 3 appointments. The first was cut short (lasted 15 minutes) due to the doctor having a personal emergency, the second one the doctor didn't turn up (no reason given other than had to do some "training") and the last one (this week), the doctor cancelled at short notice (no reason given). One begins to wonder. Receptionist who phoned to tell me my appointment this week was very nice and... less

I've met a really lovely woman recently, and feel I've made a good friend. Only met up a few times but can feel a closeness that's pretty rare, we seam to share a connection, and really understand each other when every one else is clueless haha.
Well, she came to mine this afternoon, and as we sat chatting, for some reason, I had the need to tell her about who I am. I guess I just wanted to start making friends who know ME, all of me, wart and all haha.
So, there we were, chatting and laughing, and suddenly I just come out with it
"Oh btw, im a cross dresser"
She was totally speechless, she didn't actually say anything for about 5 mins. I was in tears by now, in disbelief, not just that I had told her, but the totally tactless way I did lol.
I told her I knew she would have questions, and that it was ok, I'd answer all of them as clearly as I was able. Sure enough, the questions came.
"How long? Are you gay? Have you seen a counselor? Who else knows? Why did you tell... less

I told them I was just looking for a realistic wig that would go over my natural hair, so the system I got is just a little big bigger in dimensions to where my own natural hairline is. I then stick it down with tape or glue.
The hair is 16 inches long and it's real human hair. I chose silky straight which I adore. It looks so real it's scary. Ha ha.
If you're interested, the company is here:
