We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

This is one of those transgender questions that is easy to answer when you remove transgender from the question.
"Do women feel masculine or male at times?"
Sure. A woman hanging out with the guys, farting and scratching her crotch might feel more masculine in that moment.
However, feeling masculine is not the same thing as feeling male. Male is a gender identity. Masculine is a way of describing behaviors and feelings that are typically associated with men.
Men feel male. Women don't.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2016/07/29/sexual-orientation-discrimination-court/87746732/ I thought that it was imperative that I share an article that may apply to all of us or, in the very least, motivate us to empathize and offer support to a teacher who has been the victim of discrimination for years. According to the article, a lesbian college professor named Kimbery Hively who had been denied a promotion from part-time to full-time college instruction for at least six consecutive years sued an Indiana community college for sexual discrimination. Although she has worked at the college since 2000 and began applying for full-time status since 2009, she has continually been denied the position, and despite the reported advancement in discriminatory protection to members of the LGBTQIA community, her case was dismissed on grounds that there is no federal law that mandates assistance to someone who finds themselves in sexually... less

My name is Julia, and I am a Master's student at the University of Aberdeen (Scotland), I am in the Sex, Gender and Violence programme. In order to complete this programme, I am to complete a piece of independent research for my dissertation. I decided to research transgender people, particularly in the areas of their relationship to traditional masculinity and femininity, and passing/presenting. This is a very exciting research opportunity for me, as I hope to be able to further transgender rights by educating the general public and normalizing their experiences. I will conduct qualitative interviews with them (via Skype or telephone ), and am in dire need of participants! This is where you come in. Would you be interested in having a conversation with me where you share your stories and opinions?
You qualify to participate in this research if:
⁃ The sex you were assigned at birth does not match your gender identity
⁃ You are 18 years of age or older
⁃ The culture that you identify... less

Now I am dedicating my dissertation of an MBA course that I'm finishing this year to all those who transitioned or plan to transition.Growing from my gender assigned at birth to who I am today, I believe that with my own experience I can make this a strong piece of work, but I need the help of others to make it great! Therefore I created a survey that is based on previous questionnaires in staff retention, and LGBT workplace issues, and amplified with my own questions. Please find a link to the online survey here: https://kingston.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3gyRy6tYuWqX3TfI would be very thankful if you’d participate in this survey and contribute to my research. The study is designed to improve the work experience for us transgender. All data is handled securely and confidentially, from my own story I very well understand the need for nondisclosure!!Thank you so much and... less

It has been defective for a long time and will offictially die on the 5th of August, I believe. I have carried my contact list over to Trillian, but that seems to lack a lot of features that YIM had. Has there been any discussion/concensus on GS for a replacement default chat app? This comes at a particularly bad time since Win 10 is upon us, like an anti-Crimbo present, causing many functional parts of Win 7 to stop working correctly while Win 10 spies heavily on most everything on our computers. Do not do a default install, set your privacy settings the hard way for win 10. If you read carefully win 10 takes permission to spy/steal/distribute all of your computer activity/files on or... less

It's just me Dana, a relatively new member eager to get my feet wet again in this giant pool of a resources called the Gender Society! I've come across yet another aspect of this period of my life that I thought some input would prove to be invaluable on many levels. In trying to complete my profile, I had a strong desire to post a picture, but I don't exactly have a picture that might be appropriate. (which brings up an interesting topic for me) I don't have a lot of women's clothes, but I had gotten a hold of some cute costumes and shoes a while back sort of as a gag. They are not inappropriately revealing in any way, but I took some shots for a friend who seriously got a kick out of them. Might one of these suffice for now?
As I said, I never really shopped for women's clothes although some of my pants might be considered women's pants in this era as they are vintage. They're definitely not something you'd find in any men's department store these days, which is probably why I was so drawn... less

That as we know starts at a young age in most cases , you will be questioning who you see in the mirror to what your brain is telling you. Although I say all humans are equal I cannot speak for cross dressers or transvestites and so on. I am Transexual and there will come a point in your life when you realise this is not going to go away , I know that because it hounds you. From a very young age when you are able to think for yourself you question yourself daily.
If you are doing the same and have not sought professional advice then you should for your own peace of mind. If you are young you need to look for some support but be very carefull who you look to for it , there are some strange people out there on websites and the internet in general. This website is a great place to ask questions so if you have any please ask. Most trans webites are... less

All my life I knew something was different about me, but not in the usual ways transgendered kids are, I was a usual boy in every way pretty much, but found I was far more sexually aware of myself, I was that weird kid that would compare penises with other kids at school, kiss them, take photos of my junk when I got my first flip phone etc etc...let's just say I wanted to have sex badly...before I even knew what sex was,
growing up I was always interested in girls but was never shy to a guy.. I mean my first 3 kisses were guys lol, but it wasn't till grade 11 that I came... less

However, it is an outstanding, inspirational article by a trans woman when it comes to the world of dating cis men, having positive self-worth, and not being the "shameful secret." A must-read.
I got sucked into the comments section and found a great exchange of thoughts and feelings, highly educational and informative and just had to share!
Lee, a very analytical cis woman asks a question (I think she's confusing gender roles and expression vs gender identity and dysphoria), Jackie, a cis woman gives a pretty good explanation. Ellixis, a trans man gives the best explanation that gave me the chills! I can totally understand and get it. What do you think?

It hurt and although I was able to get back on the horse, I was in significant pain, mostly down one buttock and leg. Today, as I still couldn't put weight on it very easily I went to A & E who suspected a fracture! Fortunately it wasn't that bad and it was just a severe contusion and distortion of the spine, (it sounds worse than it is) so I did not need to stay in. Phew!
Exerise this week will be limited to swimming and cycling I think, as they are both low impact. I am due to meet some friends for a ride on Friday so hopefully things should be feeling better by then.
On the plus side, I have to go to Bavaria on a work issue for three day. Lovely. It's one of my favourite parts of the world!

When I went back to school in my early thirties to study child development, all semester I sat next to a lovely beautiful girl who I thought could be transgender. I never asked her because what if I was wrong? What if she was a genetic female? It's like when you see an acquaintance you haven't seen in a while and go up to her and touch her belly, and with excitement ask, so when are you due, and she gives you a searing look and says, I'm not pregnant! What if my acquaintance/desk mate thought all semester that I MYSELF was a trans woman too? (Ever see that Seinfeld episode where Elaine and a guy were dating and they each thought the other was a minority--black and Spanish...but only in the end they realize that they are both just white?!)
Plus, if she were transgender and I asked, I was afraid she would be wondering what was it about her that wasn't passing. Her forehead? Her voice? A protruding Adam's apple? which I never saw, it's rude to stare! ... less

What would make it considered "medically necessary"?
I'm strongly considering having this done, but I'd like to hear from any ladies who've underwent the procedure about their experiences.
Also, will they let me keep them in a jar? I think it would be so hilarious if my girlfriend could say she keeps my balls in her purse and it actually be true! Hahahahahahahahaha, anyway, ladies, if any of you know anything about this I'd love to hear. less

I was perusing the apple trailer page and came across this interesting upcoming foreign film, "Sworn Virgin." http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/swornvirgin/
I started reading up on this and discovered that this is a real thing, a real practice still going on today, and it's quite fascinating. Yet, at the same time, my worst nightmare!!! Because it has to do with biological women. "Choose" to live as a man for more rights, opportunities, and freedoms. Become a sworn virgin. Live and act as a man. Breaking the "vow" used to be punishable by death, but there's no evidence of that happening today if "he" breaks his vow and becomes "her" again and has "relations."
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Balkan_sworn_virgins
How does this relate to today? You can't force a biological woman to be a man and it not backfire. Why was there a punishment of death? Because they probably got tired of not being who they truly were. So... less
