Sandrena Gel and Finastride

  • May 5, 2011 12:39 PM BST

    Hi Girls!

I would like to know if anyone has used the Oestrogen, Sandrena gel 0.5mg (as the very first step in their biological transition), and what sort of effects they have had. More importantly, I would like to know how long it took you to start noticing any results. For example, how long it took for breats to start developing, facial features, etc.

I would also be interested to hear from people who used the anti androgen, Finastride?

Your help will be much appreciated!

    Hi Sophia

Sandrena comes in 1.00 gram tubes and contains 1.0 mg of estrogen. All instructions on or in the box are in Italian. I cannot advise on results because of our age difference. I am however pleased with my results.

Thanks Joanne!  I am doing this under supervision from my endocrinologist who is aalso a gender specialist (NHS route). Sandrena gel does come in 0.5mg sachets as well. The reason why I have been prescribed low doses, I was explained, is because it is always advisable to start with the lowest dose possible, so your body start getting used to it. The dose will be increased after the initial 3 month period. My problem is that after 5 weeks, I haven't seen any noticeable results.

Can I ask when you started noticing results in your case?

    Hello Sophia,

I used Sandrena for a short while, but now use Oestrogel (very similar) along with estradiol tablets. I also use Finasteride. I've been taking these for about 6 1/2 years, and I'm now 3 1/2 years post-op.

Stop thinking in terms of weeks and start thinking in terms of years before you really start to see major changes. On 0.5mg estradiol per day you might not notice anything at all, but once your dosage is raised you may see changes after a few months, but only subtle ones. Skin should start to feel softer in places, breast tissue should start to grow, very slowly probably, and boobs may feel tender or sore. Yes it's best to start on a low dose, but don't expect to see anything happening on such a low dose as you are on at the moment. Currently I use 4 pumps of Oestrogel per day i.e. 3mg estradiol, plus I take one tablet in the morning and one and night i.e. 4mg estradiol in tablet form. 7mg per day in total, though 1mg in gel form does not neccessarily equal 1mg in tablet form.

You will see the changes once you get onto the right dose, but it could be months before you notice anything, and years before you start talking cup sizes. Everyone is different though; there is no set timeline, you will just have to wait and see. Be patient, don't be measuring yourself every day, and be prepared to wait for several years for major bodily changes.

You may need to remind your doctor that 0.5mg is just a starting dose; it may not bring any noticeable physical changes at all. On a decent dose it will still take time, but it is worth the wait!

    xx

Lucy: I also use sandrena gel. I used to take oral tablets of Estrofem. I'm trying to determine what is the equivalent of the two. Meaning, 1mg of gel is the equivalent of 2.5mg orally. Any guidance or sources would be appreciated. Thanks
