The Green Lamp came from green lamp land, which was an isle surrounded by stormy clouds and lightening and a sea of light bulbs. This lamp grew up in a garden of lamps. As all lamps it started out as a little plug and from there it grew. At first it grew a cord, then a stem and at last alight bulb. But this green lamp did not grow as tall as the others around it. As it grew it felt out of place, being different from the others. All the other green lamps made fun of it.

Till one day there was a big, huge lightening storm. This storm made the little lamp stand up tall and all of a sudden its bulb lit up. It was the brightest light, so pure and white. It was the brightest light that anyone had ever seen in green lamp land. The little lamp stood up so proud and shining it’s light for all to see.

Off in another land far away was this little human boy who is afraid of the dark. As he lay in his bed looking out into the dark of night he saw this twinkling light off in the distance. It was the brightest light that he has ever seen in his young life. He was determined to have this light for him self. He rose from his bed and stared at that light. He opened his window and crawled down the roof and drain pipe to the ground below. He was off on his quest for this light.

As he traveled through the night he crossed over many things like fallen trees and limbs, there are sounds in the air that he has never heard before. The leaves were crunching under his feet as he walked on and on.

Soon he came to the edge of the sea of light bulbs. He looks around, the sky above him is dark and gloomy and there are lightening bolts and roaring thunder. He is scared but reaches down inside himself and sees he has the courage to find this great light.

He carefully and gingerly crossed the sea of light bulbs, trying not to break any. He makes it to the other side and sits down and says phew I made it. He stands up and looks around and all he can see are these great big and tall green lamps. Some pretty looking and some mean and frightening looking. As he weaves his way through this forest of lamps he comes to an opening. In the middle of this opening, which is a garden of lamps, he sees for the first time this little lamp. Standing as tall as possible and shining so bright. He bends over and picks up the little lamp with a loving touch. He hears some weird noises around him.

As he looks around him he sees the big lamps moving toward him in anger. They are bending down trying to reach at him. He holds the little lamp tight in his small hands. He is determined that nothing will hurt him or his new lamp. He starts weaving back into the forest of lamps. Ducking, swaying and jumping around as the lamps try to stop him. He and his lamp make it to the shore. The sky above is even darker, there is more thunder, lightening is crashing down around him. A bolt crashes into the sea and for a moment the sea lights up.

He starts crossing the sea of light bulbs, holding his lamp tight. The lamp is trembling in his hands. He is nearly across when a lightening bolt strikes down in front of him the light bulbs rise up and he nearly falls but as he steps, he breaks a few bulbs and there were awful noises now. He hurrily finishes crossing and falls to the dry land. Phew, he says again as he wipes sweat from his brow.

He looks back to the island and looks in front of him. He knows he must continue on. But this time his trip back is easier he has a light to shine his way. As he runs back through and over the fallen trees and limbs and crunching leaves. He arrives back home safely, he climbs back up to his bed room and in the window he goes. He gentle places his new friend, the lamp, on the table next to his bed and looks around his room. He sees that there is no creepy, scary shadows in his room now but the light is to bright to sleep by. He sits and thinks, I must have a shade for my lamp. He goes to the closet and with the lamp by his side, digs through and finds many different shades that his mom has stored away. He looks at them some big and long, some fat and shorts, some round, some square. They are in all shapes, sizes and colors but he can’t find the right one. Till all of a sudden at the back of the deep closet he sees it. A short round shade in the perfect color of green. He tires it on the lamp and it is a perfect fit. He is so proud of him self. He stands up and walks back to the table near his bed, places the lamp down. He crawls back into bed, snuggles under the covers. As he peacefully drifts off to sleep he thinks to himself and says I know I can do anything now.
