A gene variant has been identified that appears to be associated with female-to-male transsexuality - the feeling some women have that they belong to the opposite sex.

  • Very interesting Christine. I wonder if they will soon discover something similar for MtF transsexuals as well.

I thought the comment from the Beaumont Society regarding a cure was so incorrect though. Are we not seeking a cure through HRT and SRS? I certainly don't agree with those comments. I know I've said it before but being 'trans' is the difficult part. If someone could have given me a 'magic pill' to make me either male or female, either would do, (though I have my preference). It's being stuck in the middle that makes us seek a 'cure'.

I see this only as positive, as the piece goes on to say, it can help identify potential transpeople and therefore offer them an earlier intervention.

I certainly wish I could have transitioned before puberty began.

Every woman is beautiful, some show it with their faces, others show it with their hearts.

  • Interesting. It appears to be yet another thing suggesting that gender identity later in life is, to a large extent, determined by how much testosterone was present during prenatal brain development.

  • Nikki, all my research  leads me to the conclusion there is more effort put into research leading to more clinical reasons for the Male to Female rather than the Female to Male aspect of transgenderism.

Hugh.     Its not so much how much Testesterone is present or lacking in the foetal being. inso much as what prevents testesterone being generated or blocked in relation to Male to female, and studies, reports would indicate that in the case of Female to Males insignificant amounts of Testerone are involved.
