Making a point.

  • February 25, 2015 4:20 PM GMT

So a member who has never posted a forum topic or made a post here at GS has only done 2 things since joining here. Firstly blatantly advertising their own website and secondly criticising these forums. The member called them Clunky and underutilized.

These forums are the heart of this website along with its members. This is the 9790th Topic , it is also the 69,978th post .

The member done one other thing! Downgraded my reputation twice most likely thinking that I would not know who done it. Well I do get notifications to tell me who done it , here and in my personal inbox. I cannot do it back and am not vindictive enough to do it anyway.

These forums are not Clunky as the member says. They are of use to members who are not only here for self gain. They help people , they give good advice from members who care about this website and other people and not just about themselves.

So go ahead and downgrade my reputation again for standing up for other members and this website. For me being honest and telling it like it is and caring enough to notice what goes on here and if I see a wrong then doing my best to make it right. Or in this case pointing out what is right.

    Take care xx

These forums are not Clunky nor are they underutilized. I have made my point and if people do not use these forums then it is their fault not the fault of the website.

The forums are a great source of information and are, in my opinion, under utilized, which is a shame as that never used to bethe case. I guess some people see them as too time consuming and in today's one click world, writing a paragraph or two just isn't going to happen.

That said, there are, and have always been, even in the TW days, a group of people who enjoyed the forums for what they provided and also allowed them the chance to put something back into the site themselves, even if it is just a little piece about something that happened to them this week. It's a great way to get to know people when it isn't possible to chat live to them because of time zones and working hours etc and you learn what makes a person tick.

Use the forums, people, they are there for all of you.

Thank you Nikki for your input. It is the fact that the member has never posted here that makes me say that they are wrong. How can anyone make a statement saying that these forums are Clunky when they have never used them?.

I have to try something before I can judge it. There are a few members here that keep these forums going you included. Some of us have tried to bring them back to life when we notice that they are not being used. At times they are under used but only the members of GS can change that. The information here beats anything I have seen on the internet. Maybe that statement that was made was a lame attempt to take members away from here to their own website. If any member here prefers what I saw there then maybe they should think again. I saw one persons ego thinking that they know it all and have all of the answers. Well I have news for them "They don't".

The forums are not 'clunky' they can take a little getting used to, this happens from website to website each owner/proprietor has their own way of laying out there product. The bare bones are the same but all the bolt-ons & additions make the differences.

The important thing is though if there is a problem you will need to tell the staff by posting a forum post in say.....

The technical forum. People are here to give assistance but they are not mind readers they cannot assist without being asked

Hi Matt. I know the forums are not "Clunky" and you and other members here who use them know they are not. The member has never posted in them so they should not criticise them.

There is not much that gets past me here just as I noticed the number of forum posts was close to 70,000 at the time I started this. I got position 70,000 Smile .  I could see that member was only here to promote their own website and I was not the only one who noticed. I took a bit of personal abuse over it but I can handle that. Thats what comes with being honest here , it touches a few nerves sometimes.
