Unfortunately I usually get "sired" when speaking to people in shops etc.

I can dress androgynously looking female with my long hair and my make-up but still people will only see my male characteristics.

It happened again today in one of our major food supermarkets and I have written to their head office to find out if they do any training that includes identifying people not merely into male or female but also to question what they are seeing.

It is obvious from my mode of dress that I do not wish to be identified as male; why would I be wearing make-up?

If I could do anything to help me and others it would be to get large stores to include gender diversity in their training programmes.

Do other members have an opinion please or am I flogging a dead horse?

    Best wishes,

I certainly feel a good deal happier with myself these days:-) I even went to a funeral last week dressed as myself and although I may not look very feminine I was still proud to be there as me. I don't get "madamed or mammed" usually only "sired" and whilst it does hurt that I am not recognsed as my self and not as a bloke I'm too happy with my life to make it an issue. Though today I went to a major store and was "sired" by an assistant. I have dropped the company an email pointing out how I was dressed and whether they have a policy of diversification training to their staff. Some how or other I will make a difference for someone. The difference is unfortunately my features are decidedly un-feminine. I know what some of my problems are. I am sure if I were to wear a wig it would change the way I look. It would also draw peoples attention to me even more. My mode of dress is now always feminine, in that all the clothes I have are now female apart from some male clobber which I shall in due course give away. I am unfortunately going to a funeral tomorrow and I shall be dressed in my black female jeans, female top, with a scarf round my neck. my female shoes, make-up and lipstick. This is how I will dress to go to town today and I shall be calling on my bank and the local council offices to clear up some outstanding matters relating to my name change. Even with all this I still have my concerns that I am not dressing female enough. I have a Partner who is not happy with what has happened over the past 9 months or so. I do not want to embarrass her hence the androgynous look. I hope as time goes by that I will look more female as this will give me more confidence. SarahW

With effect from 1st January 2012 I legally became Sarah Winfield.

It took a couple of weeks for me to come to terms with this and to get my act together to notify the many bodies that have to be aware of this change.

My bank cards are now all in my new name as is the various aspects of living in the UK e.g. utility companies, investments, pensions etc etc.

Today I received back from the DVLA my driving licence and the number now contains an element that identifies me as female.

I am so pleased with this recognition and although it is only a title it really makes me feel like the person I am.

I have physical developements as well and I just feel so good about myself.

Whether I am doing this whole thing correctly I don't know. I do know I am doing it as I see fit and risking the consequences.

There has been an enormous personal loss in that my Sons have totally disowned me, cutting off my access to Grandchildren .

On the other hand I have met some wonderful people who have helped me come to terms with the changes that have happened so quickly in my life.

    Best wishes,

    Hi.

I haven't been on the site for quite a while so it is good to be able to read the forums again.

However I have been contacted by a deleted member asking me to be a friend.

    The members name is halimalove.

I intend to ignore this unsolicited contact but would be interested in knowing why this member has been deleted.

    Many thanks,

Many thanks for your reply about our name change. Sorry it has been a little while since you sent it. There has been no change with respect to my Children and consequently my Grandchildren. Although I watch every car that goes by the house and I guess I always will I am not hopeful that they will contact me. I honestly didn't imagine the consequences of my decisions but they had to be made and I would have to take the same ones again. I am sorry also that you are having similar experiences; it not as if we have murdered anyone is it? On the other hand of course we have, in my case, my Sons dad and a grandad:-(

I hope sometime that I will see my Children and Grandchildren again but I don't hold out much hope.

Especially since my younger Son with the Grandchildren, married into a very devout RC family and no doubt they will put pressure on him to stay away from me. Religion has so much to answer for.

Have to go Emma, the housework beckons. Love Sarah XXX   less

My only wish is that because I don't dress obviously male in fact quite the opposite and wear my make-up that they wouldn't make any reference to a gender title at all.

Why do some natural born females seem to make the point?

However since I am being me whatever they think I just accept my happiness at being able to go out as I can; even if it isn't wearing a dress or skirt.

Sarah Winfield I wasn't "sired" today:-)

Today my Partner and I went for lunch at our local Conservative Club.

This club is usually frequented by elderly "blue rinse" ladies. When I go, and bearing in mind the commitee know my situation, I go dressed in female jeans, tops etc. with my female cut hair and wearing make-up. I do get double takes but take these in my stride.

We enjoyed mushroom soup and coffees.

After we had finished one of the waitresses comes to the table and says "are you two ladies finished?".

Well you can imagine my smile lit up the restaurant:-). Unfortunately my Partner said she felt slightly embarrassed though that didn't detract from how I felt.

It really did make my day and I still feel on cloud nine:-)

I have an appointment at the GIC in Charing Cross in June. It is still someway off but at least I have something to look forwards to.

My hair has grown quite long and although I still exhibit a high forehead the fact that it now covers my ears gives me hope for the future.

I legally changed my name with effect from the 1st January 2012. I am about 75% of the way to changing all those official bodies that need to be aware i.e. driving icence, bank accounts, utility companies etc. etc all now address me as Sarah.

I always dress in female clothes. I have given all my male shoes and some of my clothes to charity shops. I shall dispense with more male clobber in due time. I don't want to cause too much upset with my Partner.

Sarah Winfield Hi. Those who read my posts know my dislike of a wig. For the past 6 months or so I have been taking medication to prevent further hair loss. I have also been letting my hair grow in the hope I could have it styled in a feminine way.

For fear of frightening members I have updated my photo to show exactly as I am now. I haven't yet had it styled perfering to wait until it is nearly on my shoulders.

You will see just how grey is my hair and how difficult it has been to get laser treatment or electrolysis on my beard.

If any member has any advice or comments I would welcome reading them.

Traci Lee O'Gara The blond wig does suit you well though...that said, your gray beard will not effect the results of electrolysis. Mine was close to 60% gray/silver and electro zapped it off for good! So I say go for it as it will take 10--15 years off your face!

Hi. It has been a while since I logged on to this site so it is pleasing to be able to post something:-)

I have moved considerably forwards since my last visit although I still have my concerns.

I now dress permanently in female clothes. I have even got rid of my male shoes and will be dumping my male clothes soon. I don't want to cause too much upset at home for my Partner.

During the day I tend to wear jeans and tops with cardies. This is because of the weather and also because I have agreed to my Partners wishes that she won't go out with me if I am wearing a dress or skirt.

I shall be attending a funeral like this as we unfortunately have just had a neighbour pass away.

Notwithstanding this I always wear make up, my hair has grown nicely to below my ears and I usually wear a silk scarf tied in a knot around my neck.

I would love to go out during the day wearing a skirt and court shoes. Hopefully this will come I am sure.
