We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

We had just reached the apex of the tallest hill when the sunrise began. I loved it, but the dogs were unimpressed - more interested in the rabbits and squirrels we passed on the way up.

Well, I have no ministerial colleagues but I would love to have meetings with my tranny sisters later today. That is, in addition to my duties in this house :-)

I'm still new to this group and to be honest I've investigated a lot of myself in TVChix didn't want to spread myself too thin. Looking at the last dates of postings (if I've read them properly), it looks as though everyone's gone into hibernation - related to bears I guess. Do come out and enjoy the coming summer weather (northern hemisphere only I'm afraid).
Anyway, I'm dead chuffed with myself, because I'm normally Miss 'Prim and Proper', but I've added a new persons 'Biker Chick'' - you can get away with a lot more when in biker gear, particularly if you've the right figure =- some of my stuff is now size 10 and that's without having to breath in. So ther I was all made up with hair, make-up etc in ASDA in Keighley buying my new summer outfit. Everyone was very polite and helpful, no funny looks at al. Perhaps my eyesight's failing, or maybe they don't want to mess with bikers!

I did find a local group thru yahoo groups but I would like to branch out beyond this area if I could. That way I could see what is out there and be able to explore my options. The only thing right now, is pricing, where if it was lower I might have a better chance of traveling. I could also find out about the permanete hair removel and the chances of living a new life in a different place. Then there is another question that comes up. would I have 1 name or 2 or would I have a name that would be for either way. that is to be determined. It may be a slow process going thru it all but I am not sure if a psychologist is yet needed although suggested. taking one step at a time, depending on how things turned out I could get into a relationship but that would depend on how life went. I will probably deal with family as things go and... less

I am hoping to open another chapter in my life. My job is questionable waiting to see what will happen within the government or healthcare since I work in a nursing home. I would like to live as a women but my clothes and my finances are limited. The other thing is that where I work, they will not accept the change. I would like to visit a place where I can see about life there but with pricing as it is, it may not be easy. It almost looks like a weekend trip is about what I can do. I live in the Iowa great Lakes region which is about in the southern corner near the Minnesota border. Now where would I be able to find a strait lady to have a relationship with? Maybe that would come later in life. I am also looking for a way to get rid of unwanted hair where possibable.it may be hard to get or have family support for all of this as they would really be in shock, but I could see what happens down the road. When your known in this area with family living in the area as well it is not... less

She said there was no question in her mind that I was ready and she saw no problem with me having the surgery in Thailand. My plans are still to have surgery this coming December and I will make my surgeon selection and hope to begin making arrangements in June when I have a better idea how all the factors involved look. It is an unbelievable dream come true for me and once again I want to thank everyone here that have given me support to make this incredible journey. I don't believe the journey ever ends, however, soon another chapter will be coming to a close.
Hugs,

Even though officially still autumn, in practicality it is winter. I love the winters, bundling up against the cold wind means wearing sweatshirts and sweaters. The added bulk does wonders from hiding bra straps and a couple of extra bulges may go unnoticed. The feel of hose on shaved legs is so nice and it does not make me feel hot like in the summer. Since I am not ‘out’ except to a few people, any extra opportunities I have, even hidden ones, I will take. Oh, I do like the winter.

Well, I'm back now. I'm a creative writing undergrad at the University of Utah and have been living full-time since 2005. I am just stopping in to get back involved in the forums while I take a break from my schoolwork and thought that I would write a quick note to everyone out there. I look forward to meeting some of you again and hope to rediscover those whom I have lost touch with.

- I am in my 50's and have just written three books on my journey so far, covering good and bad experiences. I am interested in publishing them. Like a lot of people I don't have a lot of dollars to throw into the next stage.
- Does anyone know any publishers who are sympathetic/empathetic towards those who are transgendered? All I'm doing at the moment is trying to find out relative information so that I can follow my dreams.
- I desperately would like to get some money behind me to have the operations that I consider necessary for me, but in some way I think that may be a pipe dream, however who knows.
- On this site I am not a fully subscribed member (unfortunately,) so I cannot respond directly to anyone. I am willing to give my e-mail address on this site, but please be genuine in offering me help if you can.
