We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

It's called Fifi Mahony's and Marcy Von Hesseling runs the place. Marcy is encouraging me to come shop in person. She says Fifi's is a fantasy. Fifi's sells the coolest multi-colored custom made far out wigs. The also have some of the slickest headresses, glitter, earrings and jewelry with a Fifi's Hair Salon adjunct. Fifi Mahony has splendid accessories and cosmetics. Prices are pretty reasonable for what Fifi's is selling. I've included a picture of myself in a blue Lady Bunny job made for me by Marcy.            https://www.facebook.com/fifimahonys less

We were discussing various Pride events and they seemed no problem But then we started talking about a meal (should have been held nearer Christmas but postponed) and several members then started asking about whether certain estblishments were TG friendly or not. Now that is something I have never bothered about. If I am hungry I go into pubs, cafes, chipshops or restaurants and just order what I want. Sometimes I am with friends other times I am on my own. I think nothing of it. If I want to buy clothes - I go in and buy them - again sometimes on my own or sometimes with other ladies. My money is the same as anyone elses and to be honest everywhere is glad of the custom. If I had bad treatment from the establishment staff or other customers - I would do something about it (probably get what ever I wanted on the house). I even offered to meet those that were bothered about somewhere... less

Any trans friendly shoe ideas for stores in the states? I'm semi comfortable going out in public and doing my thing, but wasn't sure how other girls shoe shop.

I also recieved some white fishnet stockings and something that looked like pink socks.. these items were inside out as well.. i did not know what to do with the pink sock things since they had a loop on them ??? I have nothing to go with the white fishnet stockings so I did not use them.. The feature i liked most on the body stocking was the flower lace patterns..Features I think would be good is to have some with sleeves.. And also.. maybe a picture and better description of how to wear and what some products are..
After wearing… I absolutley loved the feel of this product.. It fits me nicely and accents my shapes wonderfully.. I felt as though the material may be a little weak, but slide it on carefully and everything is great..I think a softer material should be used. I like it but feels a little ruff.. The only tips I have is that this Body... less

There is a story behind it but suffice to say the reason it was thrown out was as much my fault as my partners. So onwards and upwards, Now that my partner understands the depth of my feelings she is more than happy for me to replace everything. We are not wealthy people but I do have a reasonable amount owed to me which I should be receiving in the next week or two.So I need ot replace everything. I want quality well designed clothing, things I can mix and match, good evening Dress for going out, Makeup with the correct tones, shoes and accessories that I have never been able to get
Over the years I havce made many attempts to buy clothes etc and have never really been able to get anything that fit properly. The clothes are out there but my terrible terrible guilt and shame caused me to not want to shop properly but as I descibe on my blog "commando shopping"

Would love to pop over and see Mr Pearl's Studio but I'd need several bank loans to afford one :)
Used to like Orchard but they've gone up a bit in price since I first bought from them.
Gallery Serpentine was good over in Australia while I was there and I used to lust after a wasp Creations corset but the owner has passed away (some time ago_.
I'm not a real fan of the "flat" figure that is currently in high demand on the catwalks, I still like curves :) less

I have a challenge when it comes to wigs - a big one - literally. I have a 25" head. In a hat in US sizing 7 3/4 or 7 7/8. For the wig I use now I basically just have to undo the adjustable elastics and rely on bobby pins and a little luck to keep it from slipping.
Short of a custom wig, does anybody have any ideas or sources for wigs for us big women with heads the size of small cities?

I go to a store in the USA called "The Gap" which has some very nice, trendy clothes - jeans, tops skirts mostly. I got a pair of shorts by mail, size 6 - HUGE! Return for a 4. Still LARGish. Well, they fit well enough for work at the marina. I went back to a "morter and brick" Gap store for a pair of twill pants (trousers) and the clerk advised a size 2 (I was wearing the shorts). I try on the 2 and they are still baggy - I'm like, "...i can't be a zero, no way!" But yes, a size 0 was the size that fit. Just goes to show that you still have to try things on...you'll spend too much time returning things and one will just have to get "conditioned" to the scary walk to the changing room! less

Last autumn, I decided that I couldn't live without Suzy anymore and decided to bring her out again.
This meant that I had st starting buying several things again, which included a new wig. This meant to ahve a look online for shops in Birmingham which are at least TG friendly shops, where I can not only buy one but hopefully get some advice on how to maintain it.
I eventually found one site, which is http://www.glamorousfrontlacewigs.com/. The person I emailed online arranged an appointment, so I can go in and have a chat with her. I had a look at several other sites for ideas for styles and such and then I went into the shop in Birmingham. Damm I was a bit nervous by going in but the lady, Fallon was her name, was very friendly and helpful and I found that she had several other TG... less
