We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

I got to the local bus stop having seen two buses pass the stop and then the next one running late. That late bus meant I missed the coach I wanted to get.
The first real incident occurred as I got onto the Oxford Espress and used my "Key" (electronic ticket). The driver said "You have 8 journeys left love." As I moved to a seat the next passenger a very nice looking lady bought her ticket and the driver said "That will be £15 for a period return mate."
If it hadn't been for missing the bus I'd not have been party to the next incident. I got off the coach as usual at the Marble Arch stop and took a walk along Oxford Street before heading to Camden for the Spectrum London meeting. I often pop into Debenhams after getting off the coach because I know exactly where their toilets are and they are general not too busy and are kept clean. Tuesday afternoon was no exception and up to the loo I popped. As I entered the ladies a... less

Whilst I'm quite slim, I still struggle to get the right size bra - and wasted so much hard earned cash that way, lol.
With a 40" strapline and an A cup, you can see the problems.
So why did it take me so long to discover bra expanders? So now a 38 - even a 36 can be made to fit - and there's more A cups in those sizes. Yahoo!!!
Just wanted to pass the tip on - 'though guess you smart people probably knew all about them already!
Much love

To be honest, I wasn't sure where to put this, but since it involves purchasing an item of clothing, I figured it belonged in shopping. As we all know, camouflaging certain anatomical flaws is a perennial topic of interest for us girls. Everything from tape (ouch) to gaffs have been discussed at various times.
Let me introduce you to another alternative. If you go to http://www.koalaswim.com and check out some of items they have, you may be astonished at how well they work.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
This is very much a gay guy oriented site. So if you might be offended by the sight of barely contained male appendages, please go no further. Consider yourself warned, girlfriends! However, with that said, many of their suits are designed for total containment & concealment rather than blatant display, though there are plenty of those as well. I recently purchased two of them, Secret Wish and Addictive.... less

Whilst this post may be applicable to all, I appreciate that its responses from the UK that I'm seeking. its a UK discrimination thing, I guess.
Maybe I'd got complacent. I know I look predominantly male at the moment, though with some differences. , but I've shopped for female clothing in every leading store this country has. I've never had a problem. I've been welcomed, staff have always been friendly and changing facilities have never been a war zone.
A couple of weeks ago I went to my local New Look to find a pair of jeans, Size 10 must be damned popular as it took ages to find a pair I liked and that fit into my price range . I went to the changing room and the girl who was controlling the room looked at me in total confusion. A supervisor was also there and said 'I'm sorry, men aren't allowed in the changing rooms'. She then noticed my breasts and got really confused. She ummed and arred but, after some obvious internal conflict, decided her original statement was valid.

question 1, have you got a vee string or similar product that i have not heard about?
question 2, how easy are they to get on and off?
question 3, how would you rate this product, value for money and quality?
question 4, can you suggest where to get one from? i found a few web pages, the prices vary so much.
last question (my god, i didn't think i have so many questions when i started this) any advice on what kind to get would be much appreciated.

Perhaps some of you have already heard of this line of beauty items, I had seen ads for them at various locations, but haven't tried them, so if any of you have, please, please chime in with your experiences.
Anyway E.L.F stands for "eyes, lips and face" and is a line of cosmetics where none of the items costs more than a dollar. Not that I haven't spent disgusting amounts for makeup in my never ending quest to look like Jessica Alba (Shut up...stop laughing. It could happen!<Joni stamps foot and pouts prettily.>) I am so not averse to spending only as much as I would spend for an artery clogging meal at McDonald's for enough makeup to do my whole mug. Shoot with makeup at that price you can try and if you don't like it out the window it goes. But don't litter, that's wrong. Dispose... less

Nikki's post decided me to open this topic about the differences in how women and men shop...for nearly everything, from clothes and accessories to groceries. Recently, and I can't remember where exactly, I saw a post or an article on the differences in shopping "styles" (for lack of a better word) between men and women. It may even have been here on TW, or it might have been another forum. No matter what, I don't like to plagiarize, so if anyone here posted the original thread, please speak up so we can acknowledge you or if someone else has seen it on another site, please let me know so we can give credit where credit is due.
Anyway, the gist of it is this. Men, traditionally, have been hunters and women have been gatherers. Both essential to the survival of a group and both respected, one would suppose, within a particular group. Of course we're talking here of olden days when people subsisted on what they could forage from the land around them. Before agriculture and commerce and so... less

Just wanted to say that Red Letter Days - VIP TopShop Experience is now a TG friendly one!
I have'nt been on it yet, but may well treat myself.
I initially found it through a link on AOL and it sounded fun. VIP lounge, personal shopper, refreshments. A fun afternoon shopping - what more could I ask for????
Except the small print declared the experience was 'for females only'.
Well, that made me feel a bit miffed. There is'nt a female shop anywhere that has'nt happily taken my money and I did'nt see why we should be excluded here!
So I emailed them immediately with my best unimpressed head on and said, amidst my barrage:
''...I am absolutely appalled that, through a quirk of nature, I can be born with many secondary female attributes but simply because my gender is inaccurately notated as 'male' you feel that its perfectly ok to exclude me - and the thousands like me - from taking advantage of this gift by boldly proclaiming 'females only' in the 'small print'.

From now on there will be certain standards for the Shopping Forum (SF hereafter) no skirts longer than 15" from waist to hem and no heels shorter than 5".
