We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Some of us spend 50 years or more going though the "I guess I'll always have to live as a man" way of life and never think this will change. For the first time in my life, I have a chance to change to the real me., 9 months ago I realized that for the 1st time in my life I can be me. I skipped the therapist phase, what a waste of time, I know who I am and what I want.,and went to a good friend who is a Endo''. We talked for several days and he wasn't surprised how I felt, which freeked me out because I thought everyone was fooled by my facade. He over saw my bloods and health issues and agreed to monitor me.He agreed that I was really in the wrong place, gender wise. With his help I started a regimen of estrofem, and spiro, . I'm 6 months in and I'm so in the right place!! The point of this thread is to get other advanced aged women to come forth and lets talk about us and how things are going and... less

I have read (with caution) articles that describe circumstances when a low dosage has been taken for a short period to gauge whether a person gains psychologial benefits from feminine hormones, assisting them to determine a way forward and understand their condition. The reason for asking the question is contained in the question.

1 x 2 mg Progynova (estradiol valerate)
1 x 5 mg Provera (Progesterone) for 10 days at beginning of each month
I am planning to switch from Progynova 2 mg to Estrofem 2 mg taken sub-lingually, because I have heard that taking oestradiol this way goes straight into the blood stream, whereas taking oestradiol valerate (Progynova) orally means it has to go via the digestive tract and liver, which is less preferable than directly into the blood stream. Has anyone any views on this?
As I have got some quite good results with breast growth in 7 months from just 2 mg of estradiol daily, is there any point in upping my dosage to 4 mg per day?

i would like to ask about my hormones
my doctor in Syria gave me :
androcure 50mg daily
estrofem 4mg daily
is that enough for me i am now 33 years old
i need to know if i have to use more dosage or alternate medicine
or more as progesterone
i will be so glad if you help with your experiment with your doctors, coz here in Syria no body deals with TS and have low experiments in therapy .
thanks for your advanced help
I'm curious, has anything been decided yet on mods for this forum. It seems like there are people hoping the controversies just go away. Until next time.

It’s interesting to hear about this gang of five, this Trannyweb Mafia, who apparently run our community.
I would be most interested to find out just who they are and also why some people think they wield so much power.
However, having said that. It’s not difficult to be part of the team that runs Trannyweb. If you want to be involved and hopefully, make a difference, then please just drop me a line at [email protected]. Who knows, you could be part of the next gang of five!

I have talked at length with him about starting HRT, and all I keep being told is that I have to follow the strict rules to be refered to Charing Cross, ie: RLE for a year before I can be referred, changing my name by deed poll, etc etc. which i am not 100% ready to do yet!
I have read and shown my counsellor "Guidance for GPs, clinicians and health professionals on the care of gender variant people" a Department of Health publication (www.gendertrust.org) which deals with HRT, but he and the NHS seem to be totally inflexible.
My question is, is there another way of getting my GP to prescribe HRT, and monitor my health for me? less
Is it safe to take oral estrogen as a suppository? I ask this because I read it is better to have estradiol enter the bloodstream directly instead of injested.

Now for my dilema I don't want to fully transition just grow small breasts. Does this make me transgender or still a crossdresser? I don't want to become a woman just feel more like one. I know it is just a label and it should not matter but I need to try and put this in some kind of perspective for myself. Any comments will be appreciated and I will be on to reply when I can. Thank you all. less

Thank you for your answers.

Chronic exposure to estrogen impairs some cognitive functions
Veterinary biosciences professor Susan Schantz and graduate student Victor Wang found that rats exposed to estradiol were significantly impaired on tasks involving working memory and response inhibition.
University of Illinois researchers report this week that chronic exposure to estradiol, the main estrogen in the body, diminishes some cognitive functions. Rats exposed to a steady dose of estradiol were impaired on tasks involving working memory and response inhibition, the researchers found.
Their report appears this week in the journal Behavioral Neuroscience.
The researchers made the discovery when studying the effects of estradiol on activities mediated by the prefrontal cortex, a brain region that... less
