We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

This is a bit long, but pretty much spells it out about the LLEEA (Hate Crimes) bill ... may even explain the difficulties in us getting visits
with the pertinent parties. The push for support on the bill from the various congressmen and organizations are explicit and persistent. The language below is explicit in what it covers. And also, what it doesn't cover. Nothing about gender identity, gender expression, transgender, trans-anything. Nothing about Brandon Teena, F. C. Martinez, Amanda Milan,... less

Once-thriving downtown shopping districts have fallen on hard times while the suburban malls continue to expand. These areas were once home to unique and unusual shops (certainly including a number of good places for trannies to buy clothes), but now they are partially empty. What can we do about these perpetually blighted neighborhoods?
Salt Lake City has fought downtown blight, mostly unsuccessfully, since the 1970's. I am curious - how are other cities doing? Is this problem common outside of the United States?

P.S. I wrote a lengthy article about this, mostly related to local issues in Salt Lake City, and posted it on my website. It is located here:

I am thinking--very hard--about leaving the Reps myself right now. But I am not at all sure that I trust the Dems any further, either. And, frankly, there hasn't been a seriously viable Independant candidate since Steve Forbes--if then.
So...I nominate you for Prez, and Stevie as your Vice Prez. Or vice-versa. (I will not run for office; I tend to run FROM public offices....)
You are partially right about the Southeastern States, but many of those have been wanting to reurn to 1948 for so long I don't even count them in anymore.
Here in Indiana, there are a lot of people who are pretty conservative...but vote Democrat anyway. It's an interesting view to watch, and has almost a Canadian Socialism flavor to it. (That, incidentally, is not meant as a slur at all. It IS... less

In numerous situations, they have betrayed our trust so many times that they no longer deserve it. The scary side of the issue is this: What if a bad situation arises and action is needed, and our leaders tell the truth for once? Who will believe them? This breakdown of trust may well have severe consequences some day, and we have liars like Richard Nixon, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Tony Blair, and countless others to blame for this sad state of affairs.
Iraq may well be turning into (to plagiarize from Saddam Hussein) "The Mother of All Quagmires". I still believe that getting rid of Saddam Hussein was a good thing to do, but the way it was done was horrendously botched. We would not be having nearly as many problems if we had been patient and worked for international support. Then, it would have been a UN-sanctioned, international affair and would have been less likely to stir up Islamic rage,... less

I am reading a book about New York history. There is an interesting figure in the eighteenth century, the lord Hyde, governor of New York, who was a tranny as well. According to the book, she was caught once dressed when having a nice sunday promenade in Battery park. The lord tried to explain her dressing as a honour gesture to the Queen, but did not succeed well. The book continues with the comment that the poor lord just happened to be in the right place but in the wrong century.
The interesting thing about this while thing is that it wasn't what it appeared. If you read more about this you will find a lot more questions than answers and all is not what it... moreThe interesting thing about this while thing is that it wasn't what it appeared. 1. Some of the items on display were replica's
the originals stored safely away or so they
thought. In many cases the replicas were
overlooked and the original item were taken.
2. Many of the locks that were safeguarding the
items were not shot off or damaged but rather
simply opened with a key.
3. Many of the "looted" items are already
appearing for sale on the net and in various
places in Europe.
All this makes me think that the looters were not
the common man of Iraq and this was a well thought out and planned heist on a famous museum.
Maybe even an inside job!
Lastly - The Americans are not to be blamed for this action as there were many other items with a higher priority that they had to worry about. less

The UN has outlived it usefullness. Their only contribution is in relief work. As a place to resolve differences the UN has never been able to perform any function. Korea, Vietnam, Cosovo, Israel the list is endless The UN has never solved
a problem. Now they are even a more pathetic bunch with absolutely no enforcement powers. They can make all the resolution they want but they can't enforce them.. I never opposed the goal of removing Saddam Hussein from power. As I have mentioned in one or two other posts, I believe he should have been removed during the first Gulf War. Leaving a defeated enemy in power is never a good idea.
However, I opposed starting the war at this time primarily because of who is in charge. Bush's inept diplomacy has done a great deal of damage. A better leader could have made a more convincing case. Instead, it has been obvious for months that Bush was going to pursue this no matter what Iraq or the UN did. He only went to the UN as an afterthought, when advisors indicated that it would be better to get UN approval. If there had been better leadership, perhaps even France could have been convinced. Even if France still threatened a veto, it would have been easy to get a large majority on the Security Council to support... less

For example if the our stone age forefathers/mothers had clung to a strictly conservative position we would still be chasing buffalo around with clubs. On the other hand if they had decided to be strictly liberal they would have given the food away and starved to death.
I think somewhere in the center makes more sense to me. I could be considered liberal about many things but also conservative about others. Labels often don't provide an accurate portrayal of reality. I like the term progressive beacuse, as I see it, it gives one the option to follow the best course and viewpoint instead of being constrained by one extreme or the other.

Whether or not they could be infantry I am not totally sure (I was smart enough to go Navy, after all); although given the size and stature of some of them, I wouldn't be too surprised if they held their own in a firefight.
