We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Around the time of the Civil War (1860's), the Republican Party, then a new party which had just come to power, was the "liberal" party (the one that favored change), and the Democrats were the conservatives. Now, they seem to have switched places. At the state level, local issues sometimes dominate. In Utah, the Republican Party is predominantly Mormon, while the Democratic Party is predominantly composed of non-Mormons and Mormons who don't mind rocking the boat. It certainly makes the choices clear. As a non-Mormon, I cannot vote for a Republican in Utah because that party is basically controlled by the LDS Church.Heather H. less

Iarael has a history of war going back over 4000 years - the original taking of the promised land - "given to them by god" was only achieved by wholesale slaughter of the original occupants. We are of course now in the midsts of a major Propogana war - This bulls**t the american and british governments are putting out is no more believable than the stuff coming out of Iraq - it is all propaganda designed to swing public oppinion - truth has nothing to do with it. There is no evidence of weapons of mass destruction - and if the goal was dissarmament then a vastly increased UN inspectorate would do the job - but Bush and Blair do not want... less

It's getting a little ugly in here...I think a time out is called for. There has to be a respect for the various laws on both sides of the puddle, like them or not. Do I think banning guns is a bright idea? Not really.Do I think carrying one in Self-Defense is a winner? I don't think so. Words are strong indicators of ideas. I make a living with words, so I know when to back off...and when I need to chime in. This is one of those times.Part of this discussion must be based on some measure of respect for all sides. Let's not lose that. After all, that is what makes TrannyWeb special.Okay, I've said enough for now. Come out of your corners, shake hands, and let's continue to discuss this civilly. It's been too good a thread.Luv 'n hugs,Jayne Sakura :) "Almost-Angel, T-Girl Genius, and Ultra-Flirt" less

Typically this is a non-religious legal ceremony where people get wed, either cos they have been married before, and the church doesn't want them back, or they cant be doing with the church thing anyway. So all the talk of legal partnerships for gay couples or two trannies for that matter seems fine to me. But the orginal concept of marriage does have religious origins, whatever faith people may be (Christian, Hindu, Muslim etc). I think to extend Civil ceremonys here the UK would be a fine thing, leaving church marriage alone, so as not to offend religious ceremonies.I think most of us seem to be largely in agreement.Incidently I did get married in church and did get to wear the dress (... but only later!). less

I am a pretty conservative person myself, and certain policies that the incoming folks will bring in are a good thing. No argument there at all. Nor do I wish to sound that this is a terrrible thing for our country, from a fiscal point of view...or from several other points of view. I don't necessarily buy into this "war" on terrorism, however. There have been terrorists for many years...it was not until they hit us on our home turf that we finally decided to chase after them. Historical precident: WW2. However, it is those same almost ultraconservative views that concern me the most. The problem with some of these views is that, if left unchecked (And a good job to Heather for reminding us of that, by the way), these people will take us back the the era of "Leave it to Beaver",... less

But today it is normal to have Black, Asian or Gay characters. But progress in representing these communities on UK telly probably didn'treally start until the '80s.Sadly the portrayals of women back in the 70s were pretty dodgy too. I feel that the world has moved on, but not for us.I guess another reason I feel this, is from time to time its all too common to be the butt of a joke (not personally) but as part of a stand up / comedy show.Similiar jokes against an ethnic group would now be considered racism. The dictionary says a TV, is a person who wears the clothes of the opposite sex, and a TS is someone who has the thoughts and feelings of the opposite sex. Lets face it I (and lots of you) fit both categories. But a TV is now portayed as some sort of pervert, where a TS is now someone who has had a sex change.... less

So initially I though I would vote for 1 - Because I thought if I was given the chance now to be female I would probably take it - But I am not sure having thought about it, that I would have wanted to have been born female - I had some great times in my past that I would not have experienced had that been the case - and I actually enjoy the attention I get as a trannie. I would like to see a world where gender is not an issue and we can all walk down the street wearing whatever we wish and live as female men or masculine women (Actually women already have that bit) - But if this was the case now - what would I do with my life. OK life is a bit challenging at the moment - and I am having to rethink everything -... less
