We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. What effect does female hormone therapy have on a male, and how... moreWhat effect does female hormone therapy have on a male, and how soon?
The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Since then I no longer have the drop down menus and instead see the message that I do not have Flash installed, so I clicked on the link to download the latest version, which seems to have installed ok, but no change with drop down menu problem, still getting the same message telling me I haven't got the latest version (which I've just installed!)
Have tried shutting down and starting up again. I'm on Windows XP using internet explorer 6. never had any probolems before today.
Is there anything I need to do after installing the latest vesrion of Adobe Flash? Anyone else had similar problems?

My friends and I have been making a few video's and adding them to YouTube. They are mostly drag video's but this one that I've put the link to is of little 'ol me. I came back to the house to help with the filming from a dinner date and I kinda got roped in to performing. Normally I'm behind the camera but not this time. All the video's are amateur, made in my friend's apartment and totally filmed and edited by us.... so please tell me what you think. less

I have been using firefox browser for some time now and it works really well
I recently upgraded to firefox 3, and although it too works really well. it seems the menus at the top of TW don't work anymore .
These are the pink ones at the top of the screen. If I click on one, the pulldown list appears and the highlight follows my mouse, but if I click on an item - nothing happens.
I can navigate around the site with the list of links that appears at the bottom of most pages, but that doesn't take you everywhere (for example, I can't get to the "whose online" page)
Has anyone else seen similar problems or even maybe got a solution ? less

I have Firefox installed on my PC as one of my browsers, now the other day i downoaded the latest version via IE7 and since then i have had no end of problems with it. Every single time i open FF it freezes solid on me, i even tried re-installing FF2 from the start-up disc and even THAT is freezing too.......and it happens every time when i start a new session or return to a previous one. Best thing is i can't even run it in " Safe" mode without problems.
Any Help/Advice you could give me would be very much appreciated!

It may only be a minor problem - but its a major irritation!
I'm fairly sure the pm's I've sent over the past month have been disappearing into some strange online Davy Jones' locker. A copy does'nt appear in my sent folder and the recipients don't respond.
I originally posted in the 'new bug' thread, though felt it was'nt a new bug.
Katie kindly suggested a cache problem and gave me the faq link which included the following:
'In Internet Explorer choose "Internet Options" from the Tools drop-down menu and then under "Temporary Internet Files", click 'Settings' and then make sure that under "Check for newer versions of stored pages", "Every visit to the page" is checked. Click OK to save your changes, reboot your computer, then try logging in again.'
I'll be honest, anything to do with the net is a little 'modern' to me. My computing skills - which used to be good - all pre-date windows! lol.
I use Mozilla as my browser. Can anyone - preferably using words of few syllables, ideally... less

Is there something "in the air" recently ??????????
Mere has a major computer "crash", then a few others!!
Now me !!!!!!!!!!!
For the past 5 days, I've been trying to get my lap-top back into "running order" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been able to Log-in to web-sites, but couldn't enter any, past the "Home Page" !!!!!!!!!!!!
And my eMail file would come up, but no matter what I did, it showed "blank Page" all the time !!!!!!
Now, after 5 days of trying just about everything I could think of .................. OK , I am a bit of a "computer Virgin", so everything I do for the first time, I have to "read-up" how to do it ! ................... and, as of now, (but I don't know for how much longer!), as you can see, I appear to have things back up and running!
I use Windows Vista, and for the past while, Windows has been sending some fairly lengthy up-dates to me, and, after the last one, everything went haywire!! (not new for Vista, I know), but I lost many basic programs, including... less

I don't seem to be the only one with this problem either.Since I'm relatively illiterate as far as compjooders go I'd be grateful for a little enlightenment here. I've been using the keyboard combinations..............Or am I confusing smileys and emoticons?

However, this forum seems to be auto-subscribing me to every thread I post in, and I can't seem to turn it off because the "Forum Notifications" thing says it IS off, and my settings say I'm not subscribing to any threads. However, this is not true as I keep getting E-mails to my school account about posts here! Is there any way I can permanently disable all notifications?

Is this the reason that I'm finding it impossible to post a Blog at present, and why my icon disappeared without warning? Or are these dark signals of difficult days ahead? Should I be wary if a bright red light passes over my body and immediately search the horizon for distant assassin, or are these technical hitches the last whimperings of my ageing Mac?
Ironically, my post was entitled 'Tongue-Tied' then I found I couldn't add anything..
