We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

I've been running a website at http://bibrary.com for about a year now, and I'm currently working on version 2.0 of the site. If anybody has any recommendations to share, I would love to hear them. Similarly, if you have any comments on the books I've already collected, that would be great as well. I definitely want to personalise the lists a bit more and provide some feedback/guidance not just on what books are LGBTQ (especially T!) friendly, but which are worth reading. Thanks, all! The ending is predictable, but the story itself is so well written that the reader can't wait for "Princess Stephan" to discover the truth.
It's available in ebook format, if you don't have access to ebooks it's also published in the fantasy collection "Pandora's Closet."
I hope you'll all enjoy this story as much as I did

Despite the odd nature of this world (or perhaps because of that nature) this Discworld has a lot of connections to our own.
In Monstrous Regiment, Terry Pratchett looks at the perception of gender. The story is about a girl disguising herself as a boy to join her country's army, similar to Mulan. Of coarse, anyone who has read Terry Pratchett's work will know that this is where the similarities end.
This is an amusing look at how men and women percieve each other. Unfortunately, I can't elaborate any more on this without adding spoilers. You'll just have to trust me that this is a good book. less

They go on the premises that the doctor was real, still alive & still creating people he can program.
But human nature can't be stopped. These books take a pretty good look at hope & desire.
I think they are very good reading.

Ray Robinson’s second novel follows the somewhat self-centred navel gazing of Antony, a twenty-something Mancunian careworker. The novel which appears to be set in the mid 1980’s charts the lives of two main characters, Antony and Kenneth, both men whose lives have been disfigured by events beyond their control. Kenneth’s educated but foul-mouthed ejaculations are a result of a near-fatal stroke, whilst Antony’s depression and near suicidal sexual practices seem to be a result of the underlying tenor of the novel, ‘simply’ that he is a transvestite.
Robinson has obviously done his homework and has attempted to gain an understanding prior to committing his thoughts to paper. I felt he was more successful with his depiction of Kenneth and he depicts this likeable rogue with humour and alacrity, but I feel his depiction of Antony is less successful. If I’d previously suffered a stroke of course, my view might be... less

Katie’s reputation on TrannyWeb is huge (and rightly so), which suggests the book should be this season’s Must-Have item. Could it live up to the reputation of its author?
The book itself comes in digital format only, and you can download it if you have a working copy of Microsoft Windows. I suppose that caters for 95% of all computers in use. If you have a Mac, you can still download it if you have emulation software installed such as Parallels or VM Fusion. You can only read the book on the screen but at least the pages turn in a pleasingly natural way. As with other digital documents, there’s a “Go to page…” facility and you can also go immediately to the start and end of the book.
The book is about 300 pages long and contains 20 chapters on a range of subjects including tranny psychology, hair and wigs, dressing services, body shape and so on. There are some autobiographical chapters... less

Poetry can be Romantic, Inspiring, Pastoral, Humorous, Sad ............................ you name it, there's poetry out there to fit that mood.
So, I'm sure, at some time, you've come across a poem that perfectly fitted your emotions, or there's a particular poem that, for some reason, you hold in your heart, as a favourite.
If so, why not post it here, so that we can all take some inspiration from it, as you have.
To sum up what poetry is, I recently came across this little piece by Edmund Vance Cooke (1866-1932), a Canadian poet.
Poetry ..................
To deftly do what many dimly think:
To fund a feeling for the world to borrow:
To turn a tear to printer's ink:
To make a sonnet of a sorrow.
So, let's hear about verse that has given you some "lift", or summed up the emotions you feel.

I've just received info about a new book that's been published.
At present I don't really know anything about it .......... whether it's good/bad or indifferent ................... but I thought that I'd bring it to your notice, and if anyone has any further info about it, you could let us know.
It's "The Transgender Child" by Stephanie Brill & Rachel Pepper. It's published by Cleis Press in the US.
Hopefully, when I get a bit more time, I'll be able to Google for a bit more detail.

If you had to write a book, on any subject, which "genre" would you choose ? ................
For example, would it be a Thriller, a Romance, a Sci-Fi, Biography, or one of the many, many other genres?
And, have you ever actually either actually written one, or started and failed ?
If so, tell us something about it.

I came across this Sanskrit Proverb, in the form of a poem, and thought you might like it.
Look to this day
For it is life,
The very life of life,
In it's brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence,
The bliss of growth,
The splendour of action,
The glory ofpower .........
For yesterday is but a dream,
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today, well lived,
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow a vision of hope,
Look well, therefore, to this day.
(from Kalidasa).
If anyone else has some poetry they think we might enjoy, let's have it.
I'm sure you ALL have a favourite piece!

As I've now become the Hostess here, (and Tranny Fiction), there's a few little "ideas" that I want to try and introduce to these Forums over the next short while.
Just as a little "starter", I want to try and combine, and "resurrect" a couple of threads that have run here before, but seem to have "gone quiet" recently.
So, although there are a couple of existing threads here, where you've all recommended books, and so forth, I thought that if I started a new one, where we each recommended 1 book that we thought was "worth the read" (on ANY subject/in ANY genre), giving a brief reason as to why we were recommending it, then we might all find authors/genres that we might never have considered opening before, far less reading!
To this end, it would be helpful, remembering that our members are spread throughout the world, if the more"esoteric" "locally published" or "niche market" books were, for this thread at least, set to one side.

Any suggestions?

The first book that I read with out being told I had to was Helter Skelter. Next came Jaws.
Than I started reading the Bicentenial series by John Jakes about the Kent family ( no Clark was not one of them ).
My sisters were readers & now we had something in common other than sharing clothes, but that they didn't know about. Yet.
I have read hundreds of books since. Mostly fiction. I read close to a book a week. Sometimes I slack off for awhile but I allways get back to it.
But I haven't read more than 3 books about trannys & I don't read romance, there just sex stories I think.
So lets start talking about books. Not just tranny books. Maybe get a list started & start a book club of sorts.
PLEASE if you have some ideas on how we can get this rolling talk to me. less
