We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. What effect does female hormone therapy have on a male, and how... moreWhat effect does female hormone therapy have on a male, and how soon?
The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Always use the Private Messaging system that we have on this site to 'chat' to somebody. If you decide after getting to know somebody via the Private Messaging here on this site, that you would like to meet somebody in person - always arrange to meet them in a very public place, never meet them at their own home first - and make sure that somebody knows who you are meeting, where and when - and arrange for them to give you a call on your mobile an hour or so after you have arranged to meet to check on your safety. Preferably pass on the person you are meeting's contact details so that if something should go amiss, at least somebody knows where to start looking for you.If you have suspicions that any contact from another member is inappropriate, please notify one of the site moderators so that... less

I know far to many girls taking meds this way and without doctor supervision, that have no real plan to which they honestly want to transition, with a host of excuses for not planning to transition. They say they want to but in the next sentence, they state it is just about the effects they are trying to obtain. Then there is the also dangerous back yard silicone parties that I heard about,( an been invited to, but refused ) that is another story for another thread.

Im not too sure if i really feel comfortable in my female body and when I imagine myself in a more masculine body I almost feel a desire for one.
As younger, I remember that i wished to be a boy, since I didn't feel at all as the cute and sweet ideal-girl and rather wanted to be though and cool as my brothers.
But throughout the years i have lived on being a though and cool girl, I have always felt angry and uncomfortable when someone accidentally called me by the masculine pronouns.
The most confusing is that my feelings says one thing, but my brain says another. It sounds much easier and relevant to be a fullout male, but still i get those irritated feelings by the male pronouns...
Id there anyone in the same position that would like to exchange thoughts and such? less

There is one thing that is more important than anything else for you to have decent future and that is honesty.
So you are trans whatever?. You need to find out firstly if what ever it is you have or who you are whether it is going to affect the rest of your life. Self diagnosis is not the best route to take so get yourself diagnosed. You thinking it is a phase or it will go away is not the right thing to be thinking.
If your gender identity is affecting your life you need a professional to diagnose you. I am telling you this because it will not only affect your future but also the future of others. Your family and friends need to be considered too , and others that surround you.

I want to turn myself impotent I don't entirely feel like telling why because that will take forever. I also don't want to develop too big of breasts. If I grow very small ones that hide easily I am ok with that, it's not a goal. At first I was thinking about how to shrink and become impotent, which I am sure impotent will ultimately lead to shrinking but I am not concerned about it. I am a grower meaning flaccid I am only around an inch or inch and a half but erect 7inches.
So my research so far turned up that cock cages worn excessively will ultimately make you unable to achieve an erection. But that takes time.
Hormones also seems like a route to possibly go but well obviously hormones will start changing the entire body.

I need to get a few things off my chest and I'm too frightened to open up to anybody in real life so I decided to turn to the internet and on a site that hopefully is not infected with trolls.
When I was a young boy I cant remember wanting anything more than to be like my two older sisters. They are quite possibly perfect as far fitness and intelligence goes and have been. So I emulated everything they did that my parents would allow me to do (dancing was a right out for a boy). As I started growing up my dad decided to take charge as the main parent to raise me and the divide between myself and my sisters grew farther and farther. When I was about 12 my parents divorced and my mom took custody of my sisters and myself. Around that time is when things started feeling strange. I began to fantisize about being a woman and how things would have been if I had been a third daughter... less

Hello, My name is Kyle, and this is my first post here ever. I have a peculiar problem - I'm 17 years old, and am having problems with my gender identity, the problem is, I've only really been feeling this way for the past three-ish years. I can't think of any memories as a kid where I felt like I was the wrong gender. Although in early elementary school the majority of my friends were girls, I don't remember ever being upset with being a boy - It was always something that I never put a whole lot of thought into as a kid. I will say that I played with dolls, and dressup, and painting, etc. when with my friends that were girls, but again, I never felt any negative feelings towards being a boy. It was just what we did. Most stories that I've read about/from MtF transgendered people usually say that they've felt that way from a very young age, and I don't think I've read any stories of... less

I am a female (23), who is in a relationship with a transsexual man (24). We have been together for about 6 and 3/4 years (our anniversary is June 6th. We are high school sweethearts. He recently came out to me reguarding that he is transsexual. I love him very much, and want to be supportive. Whether he is male or female does not matter to me, as I am bisexual and am capable of loving either gender.
He has recently started interacting on a chat client (some call it a game) called Second Life. On Second Life, you can basically do anything you can do in real life and more. At one point, he was spending 8-10 hours a day online on this "game" and it was causing our relationship to suffer. On SL his avatar is a female. He told me that he uses it to express himself. He has virtual sex with other "residents" (this is what the players are called) and told me that he does not touch himself, so it does not matter. It upsets me greatly and almost killed our relationship after I removed it... less
