We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. I had joined a couple of "straight" dating sites where the only option for gender was the binary "M" or "F". I'd check "F" but in my profile mention that I was a special girl with a little something different down below. I left it at that as far as being a trans woman while creating an interesting profile designed to attract an inteligent, well rounded, but open minded person.
I was very surprised at the number of men who reached out to me that actually understood just who I was and stated that they were very interested in learning more about me and wished to meet up, a typical response in a binary world. In further communication, quite a few expressed that they were totally fine with dating a passable trans woman while some fit into that "admirer" or even "chaser" mode as described in the thread earlier. Throughout our communication, I make it clear that I'm not your typical girl but do not say I'm trans unless they bring it... less

Have been crossdressing for about forty years. I bleong to City of Lakes Crossgender Community www.clccmn.org and have attended meetings of CLCC over the years with some absent times between. Also have attended Beta Gamma Tri-Ess which became Tau Epsilon Mu in the twin cities agea. Have not been to Tri-Ess for about three years. Seems that group is for married crossdressers and I felt out of place being single (divorced).
Found this site from a blog by Stana called Femulate: http://www.femulate.org/ and Stana had a link to Frock which took me here.

I am twenty-seven, I have been on HRT almost 4 months. I identify as TS with an attraction to both. I'm married to a very beautiful blonde of twenty-four, she has known far longer than the beginning of HRT, by years.
I like video games, internet cam chatting (TC, Skype, etc), reading, Basketball (specifically NBA). Icame here looking for friends as I lost almost all of my RL friends upon coming out. I would like to find a few people to be buddies with online ^_^
Not sure what else I can say, I lurk more than I post but I am active. Thanks for reading! less

I've already done a ton of intros at many other TG sites - Crossdream Life, most recently... and I have a blog through which I occasionally let out some steam (see profile for link). Therefore, I'll make this sort of short and sweet:
Hi! I'm Holli, the Quiet Unless Provoked, Dared or Inspired. I'm married to a sincere, devoted woman who wants nothing to do with my gender identity issues. I'm quite closeted, but have come out emotionally (as opposed to substantially) to several very caring yet respectfully standoffish friends. I'm a Christian, which also limits my feminine self-actuality - not out of fear that I'll offend or be ostracized, but that I'll chase away people who aren't ready to understand. All of these elements of social... less

From about 7 I started wearing my sisters clothes till my mother found me dressed en fem that is when I started being decietfull and sly to be dressed in fem clothes when I liked. Then my sister started spouting breasts and I use to cry my self to sleep why not me I use say to my self.
I have more than 50 years of experiences in the third gender. My aunt Peggy fineding me dressed en fem and what she made me do and what she did for me....stilbesrol and efects it had on me. She taught me how to walk like a woman from the hips........ If you sisters like me to go further into my lifes experiences I am willing to write it down for you from the 60s till know. I have a lot to tell. less

I'm an androgynous genderqueer male (if I had to define it) from Cumbria. I feel alienated by the social standards of gender roles and I think I could of benefited from being born a girl. I often wear makeup and 'womens clothes'. I'm very much 'out' about it, if I'm having a night out I put on make up and squeeze my heels on.I don't feel the need to go through any form of transition or go by anything but male gender pro-nouns, but I strongly empathise with trans-folk. Any TV shows about trans-issues I watch, and may get teary eyed overI am also hetro-romantic-asexual. There seems to be quite a few people who identify as ace who are also genderqueer.
I guess I started off slowly to dicovering my gender. I always like dressing up as a kid, whether being a lady, pirate or monster. I always was intreaged by my mothers makeup and jewelry too. When I got to my teens i became aware of bands like Placebo, Manic Street Preachers, Marilyn Manson and went through a Goth Phase just to wear makeup (tho... less
