We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

I'm new to the site so don't really know what I'm doing but here gose.
Need to start this off with abit about myself.
So for the last 3 and a half years I've been liveing on campus at my university, while there I started liveing as a girl full time, and felt really happy, made some amazing Freinds, and had the best time of my life, "even if I was shitting bricks every time I stepped outside as myself"
I'm not going to go into too much deitlas about this part as its a long story and complecated, but when I go "home" to mum and dad I protend to be a guy agin. I have told them I'm trans but they think it's a phase. ATM it easier to just keep acting for them, it's something I'm working on overcomei h but will take time and a plan.
Now my coure at uni dosent require me to be on campus, and all my loans are payed up my class and I, have all gone back to our homes.
The thing that really has me confused ATM is my Gender disphoria, it would hit me a fair bit at uni and I would fall in... less

However, I have come accross these two articles that offer another slant. I am not convinced that they reach the right conclusions, but have a look and see what you think.

Some of these heros were Batman (Adam West), Spiderman, Yulk, Superman and Wonder Woman (Lynda Carter). During the 80s I have tried to read comics but because I was born visually impaired and had difficult in reading comics. The only way for me to read any comics were to use 2 visual aids.
One of the visual aids was basically a pair of glasses which had couple of magnifiers suck on the lenses. This helped me to read small print and the other visual aid is basically a monocular (small telescope). The problem was that if I stopped reading and then I would lose my place and had problems in knowing which panel to read, espeically if I use the monocular And this is why I don't read comics, which is a shame.
My favourite male comic book charactor is Batman, although I consider the Tim Burton Batman films the best and Micheal Keaton is the best live... less

This left me questioning my sexual attraction and what sort of partner I'd like. No matter who I think about I can't stand the idea of being sexually intimate. Like, I don't want people to touch me in a sexual way and I have no desire, repulsion actually, of doing physically intimate things to somebody else. I don't think this will change either after "the surgery". I'm just curious if there are others out there like me, who are asexual. Who would like an emotionally intimate relationship but are replused by the thought of a physically intimate one. less

Sorry, there's really no easy way to start talking about something like that! It's been itching in the back my head lately to look into Orcheictomy (or orchidectomy, depending on how you want to spell it). But I am not sure how to bring it up to my wife or how to even truly go about looking into it. I understand what the lack of testosterone can/will do to me, and how to get it other ways. But does anyone know what they other effects could be? Has anyone here had it done? I do think I would feel better about myself without them among other... less

Some find my postings boring, stodgy waffle.
Some of my threads have had 25,000 views, pity half of those that did read all or part of them did'nt make a little comment, even if it's in disagreement or thought it was plain rubbish, (just to create further debate)., less

I'm just trying to understand why, so many people, when they hear the word "trans" are so fearful and hateful. I know there really isn't an answer to the question but of late I'm starting to have more and more negative reactions when I say trans. Even to people in the LGBT spectrum. I just don't get it.
No realy need to answer. I just needed to get that off my chest so my boobs would start growing again. :) less

I am currently studying for a qualification in education and, as a part of my main project I would like some input from the tg population with regard to a quiz that I have developed:
I am interested to see if any particular data drops out of this from tg participants. Please note - This is not a COGIATI style test and is simply looking at education.

I was a case who didn't grow out of it and who developed 38C cups by the late teens. I was perhaps different in that my mother was delighted with my breasts and who took every opportunity to feminize me. And I admit, I loved it. I'm very sure that this led to my eventual transition to full time woman. So, my question is: Are there any forum members who had a similiar course of events leading to their transition? less

My friend Alina, who is a transgender woman, was arrested in October 2016 on false charges of drug possession. Currently she is on a male jail awaiting for her trial. Our request that she is held in a male prison until the trial was denied because her legal documents says that she is legally male. Thus we are afraid that something very bad may happen to her.
We are asking for help to collect the fee of the attorney for her legal defense because we do not have enough money. We have until (and including) 28 February to collect the fee of the attorney in law. We friends and family have contributed all we could but it was not enough. A friend of Alina made a web page with details of how you can help: http://save-alina.dmtr.ru/how_to_help. There is also more information about Alina and some photos of her, so that you may get to know she better.
Could you please help us? We request donations and we ask you to share our fundraiser page in social media.... less
