We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Do you feel like a second mom or are you still Dad?
I have a 7 year old daughter who I love very much, she means the world to me and I'd give up anything just to make her happy. But I can't get over the realization that my desire to have a family (it wasn't an "oops", her mother and I were engaged once upon a time) at the age of 18 was because I was in denial of/ didn't quite yet realize my inner femme. I was trying so badly to "be a man" I thought being a father would help me feel manly. These days she knows I'm a girl but isn't old enough to understand. She saw my purse and some clothes I left at her mother's house and simply said, "oh, daddy's a girl, ok", but later asked me if I don't want to be her dad anymore. I told her of coarse I still want to be her dad and no matter what I do to my body I'll always be her father. But it's strangely depressing knowing that I'll... less

Trans people were lumped together with gay people many years ago because there is safety in numbers and there just weren't enough of us around to have much of a voice. Having been part of the LGBT world has been very good for trans people but it has also helped reinforce the myth that being transgender is a sexual thing, which it's not.The LGB bit is about sexual preference but the T bit is about gender identity and has nothing to do with sleeping arrangements. Various people have recently been talking about trying to persuade trans folk to disassociate themselves from the LGBs and stand on their own feet. Maybe now is the time.
What do you think? Should we campaign for the T to be dropped so we can stand alone? less

"When Will it End"
They were taken away, Way too soon, It Wasn't their time
What was the reason, What was the charge, What was their crime ?
Who is the judge, who is the jury, that said they arent allowed to live?
For living their lives, As themselves, Just giving all they could give
When will it stop, when will it end, all the crimes of hate?
Nobody ever, Has the right, to seal anothers fate
When will it stop, When will it end, We got to stand and fight
Against hate, and bigotry, We gotta stand strong and unite
They wanted to be happy, they wanted to be free, to live their own way
But someone was filled, with ignorance and anger, so they took a life away
how many more , have to die, before we can clearly see
Who has the, God given right , to say we cant be who we wanna be?
When will it stop, When will it end, All these crimes of hate?
Nobody ever, has the right , to seal anothers fate

The Wpath standards of care states that a person must have lived at least one year as their chosen gender before surgury is even close to an option. I have lazy days when I don't feel like wearing make up and skirts, I'm not far enough along to have the voice even close to right, and I still enjoy "guy stuff" like doing my own automotive maintenance or having a beer while I BBQ a steak. Do these things inturupt "full time"? Does Full Time mean I have to pass all the time? I feel girly every day, I feel like a girl when I wake up and I feel like a girl when I go to sleep. For me, it's been mentally a full time thing for years, some days I just don't get to dress the part. Some days I still look like a guy, does the simple fact that I hate shaving and don't want to do it every single day inturupt full time?
Ladies, I'd love to know what you think about this, what does it mean to you to live out your womanhood "full time"?

I turned up this morning and met the guy, nice enough and he takes me back to his rooms and as we go to sit down he says to me I like to start counselling with the first session devoted to you explaining what it is you want to get out of counselling.
I was stunned and he caught me off guard, I eventually said to him, through gritted teeth, I am here to get a referral to see a gender therapist. He then starts to say to me, "can you explain to me why you think you might need a gender therapist. I said to him I have Gender Dysphoria and can you please tell me what your experience with transgender people is and qualifications are. That stopped him in his tracks he didn't really know how to reply...I was angry at this stage...He admitted he had a general idea about "trans issues", I said to him I had spoken to my Dr and asked for a referral... less

I woke up about an hour after going to bed last night and I was crying. This has happened before but a number of years ago. I sat at my computer and wrote the following
""It is 1am and I woke up about 30 minutes ago crying with a feeling of total desolation, despair and an awful grinding sensation in my stomach. Its like my feelings of Dsyphoria were ramped up to a 10 It has taken nearly 30 minutes for me to get myself back under control and stop- sobbing since I woke up. I don't get it what is this about, the feelings are similar to those I get when my Dysphoria is at its worst. The only clear thought under all this was could I get away with suicide without hurting everyone too badly and fortunately I come up with the answer "no I can't. What it gods name is wrong with me, is this really a symptom of my Dysphoria, is it really getting to this point, is it now so serious that a dream can knock me off balance... less

Its been quite a busy time for me, had some good and some not so good things happen to me but i have dealt with them in my usual way. I suppose the BIGGEST thing this year by far was the fact that in early april i made my first ever trip up to Scotland to spend the week with Robert and i had a truly memorable week. Got to visit lots of interesting places......Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling and the Wallace Monument being just a few. I am already planning my next wee trip north of the border early next year.
The other thing thats been occupying my time has been the books i've produced on a certain matter. They are all about the RAF/USAAF airfields in eastern england, this is something i am passionate about & have made lots of good contacts with the various groups, some of whom have my books in their libraries. I have three of my books in the biggest USAAF library outside of London. I am also involved the historical research they do & i... less

Eventually unable to contain myself any longer I went in and spoke first of all to an intercom and then navigated my way up some stairs only to be met by Sharon. Casually dressed in slacks and top being closely followed by her little dog. From this point on Sharon made every effort to put me at ease. She showed me to a bedroom and asked me to change into my underwear and she went and got me a beautiful French lace gown to wear once I had my stocking and underwear on. I went prepared and was wearing my underwear. A quick dump of my male clothes and within 5 minutes I was standing in shoes and underwear {including breast forms- hers) ready for makeup and wig. We went into her massive bathroom and she took about an hour to do my makeup and we chatted the whole time.

For me, when I'm dressed as a girl, I use the ladies room, when dressed as a guy I use the guys room. The very first time I went out in public dressed as a girl it was at a bar on Halloween night, I chose that night for my first time because being Halloween it was a good cover for being "in costume". I used the guys room that night because I knew I didn't fully pass yet, but the other patron freaked out about a girl being in the guys room. The staff went in there and told me to use the ladies room, I came out of the stall and said in my deep drunken voice "why does it matter which room I use, this one had a shorter line" and they walked away.
so ladies, I'd love to hear what your experiences with this are.

So long story short I took a tumble early hrs Saturday Morning. By midday Saturday I was in some serious pain so called the local emergency Dr Service and was told I needed to present myself to emergency ASAP and by ambulance if there was no one there to take me.
Arrived in Emergency and explained my situation but because I was having chest pain(due to physical injury), no difficulty breathing, no other Heart attack signs but it was still enough for them to start running EKG’s, setting up IV lines the whole works. Even a machine that went ping.
As part of this I need to take my shirt off so they can attach the EKG leads which I promptly began to do, I got the shirt halfway off when I suddenly remembered that I had shaved my chest that morning along with my legs. Had decided to try on my new wardrobe and... less

Youth services won't help us because we are too old for those to help. We don't have an income and there really isn't much for employment in walking distance. Prior to staying in the shelter, we were at the Salvation Army but since that was my first time and I haven't lived in the county for over a certain amount of time and Ashley has been there before, the Salvation Army said we had to leave in 2 days but the Salvation Army did talk to the shelter we are in now and I'm glad we are off the streets but I'm afraid that if Ashley or I can't find employment, we are going to be bouncing shelter to shelter or staying here for a very long time. Here's a quick, fu, easy and relaxing way to do it and it'll even soften up those nasty hairs....
1. Run a bath, not too high.
2. Place 1 teaspoon of grapeseed oil (or Jojuba is also nice but grapeseed oil is much cheaper and doesn't react with much).
3. Swirl the oil around a it so it lightly covers the surface of the water (it should sit on the top)
4. Get in the bath (carefully) rolling over occasionally and lifting your limbs up and then down again through the surface of the water.
5. Stay as long as you like.... :) .
6. Gently dab yourself dry when you get out but try to let as much of the oil soak in properly as you can.
For some aromatherapy you can also add a couple of drops of Rose/Jasmine oil (anti-depressant) or Lavendar Oil 9a relaxant).
And if you have issues with ingrown hairs?
ut a few drops of St Johns Wart oil into a base Vitamin E... less
