We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

There are people here who are already members or may want to start up a new local group with you. I think we can improve this in a number of ways.
If you're already a member of a local group or want to start one, how do you think your group would appreciate a 'site within a site' of its own here at GS? Everything you'd need is already here, built and run for you. Even if your group already has a site of its own, there are features available in the 'Groups' and 'Pages' sections of GS that could be perfect for growing your group. You can even sell things through the 'Pages' section. It might allow you to sell memberships to your local group if and when your group is ready. A group membership option may also become available. Katie knows more about all this, but we're working on ideas together and could use your feedback!
So, why not create a 'site within a site' here and... less

I know for some it is harder than others , I also know some may not be able to go through with it. I cannot imagine what it would be like to not do it , to me I had to or I would have ended my life.
The thing that bugged me about what I read was the one person banging on about it but has never done it , that kind of thing is no help to anyone. As I put in the thread , we have doer's and talkers , the doer's do something about it and the talkers just keep on talking , they will talk themselves to death one day. Talking yourself to death is an option but after death it is to late to become a doer.
Why should that bother me? Well it helps no one does it?. We get one life , at the start of anyones transition and RLE people do really need to look upon it as the begining of life , a begining of a happy life , a life where you can finally be... less

A rather amusing thing happened to me yesterday.
i needed some milk so popped out to the shop, and as i was leaving, two lads who were stood outside starting shouting and thratening me, one even had the cheek to push me!!
it was actually quite amusing. there were lots of people around who witnessed it all. i cant remember exactly what they said, but you have to remember i grew up very street wise, i can still look after myself pretty well.
my reply to them was that they had better be sure of them selves because their reputation would be in tatters if they tryed beating up a "weirdo pansy tranny", only to come out of it worse off. i was extremely calm, i never raised my voice, and i was smiling the whole way through. i also told them that, if they like it or not, the world is not theirs, and that dispite what... less

Tiffany Edwards
Last Thursday, Tiffany Edwards — a 28-year-old transgender woman of color — was found shot to death in Walnut Hills, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati. Edwards’ death marks the fourth trans woman of color murdered this month, and the fourth trans woman murdered in Ohio since January 2013.
According to Monica Roberts atTransGriot, Cincinnati Police are in search of Quamar Edwards, a suspect in Tiffany Edwards’ murder. The suspect is 5’10”, weighs 250 pounds, and has a last known address on the 1000 Block of Winfield Ave. in Cincinnati.
As is often the case, reporting of Edwards’ murder featured a number of media missteps. Cincinnati's WKRC referred to Edwards by her... less

I can say and do say what if my Father had used a condom? It would have saved me a lot of grief but , he did not so my Mother gave birth to me . I was her mistake and she made that very clear.
All I know is we get one life , we get one chance to get it right or mess it all up. We can start off by messing it up but , we can put it right in the end.
I have spent my whole life asking questions then searching for the answers , the answers are all there. Does anyone here know the most commonly asked question in the world? Google does not but I do , does that make me smarter than Google? . It did not take me long to work out the answer that Google does not know. Try asking it! All of the answers that come up are wrong , there can only be one answer and it is not there.
Score: Me One : Google Zero , I beat it.
So if you have any if but's or maybe's or even what's , you... less

The music is good, the clothes, despite being wartime (or perhaps because of it) were very chic and the hairstyles were so glamorous. So we had some fun trying different hairstyles, most of which we couldn't get to work even though we did everything step by step. Still, we sorted something out and went as 'land girls' or in tea dresses. It was a good night as expected, though strange seeing German soldiers mixing with English soldiers.
So my advice to you, go and try some 40's hairstyles. They are fun, glamorous and look good today. There are plenty of Youtube lessons on them so practise your pin curls and victory rolls, or just go for big waves whcih are simple enough.
The UK has lots of 40's clubs, dances etc if you are into it at all so next time I am there I will be popping along to a... less

I hate the terminology of Cross dresser, Transvestite, or Transsexual? Perhaps in the not so distant future we can be free of the stigma and without the snide comment or those looks when out and about. I personally think society needs to start and trust themselves with the third sex....after all we are Intellectual and all so mysterious lol.
What do you think girls??

Cristine, Shye (GS Admin): There is nothing wrong with being a transexual, transvestitie, chinese, black or white, the snide remarks are down to ignorance and bigotry,. Take all the labels off jars and tins and just call them jars and tins. Could lead to interesting meals?

When I was about 11 or 12 years old I read the dictionary , yes all the way to T. I had to find out what I was but , there were no instructions , there was no internet. The spelling was Transexual back then , I think someone in the USA took the S out of maths and put it in Transexual.
From a response to something from the home page I have brought this here. So why is it so important to me that others know about me. I now cannot escape it after going to the media years ago , I have no wish to escape it.
Being Transexual is not easy , more so at a young age , pre and post puberty seemed to be the hardest part for me. Does it get easier? I some ways it does but , you will need some foresight. Getting married and having children is the biggest mistake made by most. I did not get married or Father any children. I had a long term relationship with another woman but I made her aware of myself at the start. Her being a bit of a Tom boy I think helped a lot. After 23 years... less

As for this post it involves a couple of things about today. Madeleine asked does anyone know what happened to Sarah? . The only thing I could think of was her last post about her surgery , I did say maybe she has gone stealth , that was just a guess but I do not know.
So on the subject of going stealth. I personally could never do that , there are two main reasons for that , one I would have to move far away and I have no intention of doing that , to many people in this area I live in know all about me and my past. Reason two , I think that is a good thing because they have learned from me , they have got to know me and know I am human , they also know some of what I have had to go through , they then get to see my life is not all that bad.
Another thing about today. I had to see my doctor to make sure I still have a pulse after my recent stay in... less

Her transition takes place in the mid to late Sixties. I wonder if anybody out there would care to share their understanding of the social climate of that period in relation to those who transition, and the practicalities too. Any personal experiences would be great, and will be held in total confidence.
I should add that the story paints a very positive and affirming picture of those who transition!

I haven't been on here in a while, but in the past I have found that this is the best place to come with questions. I have finally found a job, but it is a part-time job in which I present as a male. I have to start paying back my student loans next month, and I still live with my parents. I have thought about doing webcam modeling as a transgender model to quickly pay off my loans and pay for my transition. As of right now I can not afford to transition and am unsure when I will be able to. I will need to move out of my parents house of course to be able to model, but I already know of a place I can live. What I want to know is, if any of you ladies were in my position would you do it? My biggest concern is that I don't want to do anything I would feel ashamed of. If or when I transition I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and be proud of the woman I see. Out of all of the degrading options it is the safest. My parents do not support me transitioning at all, so if I... less
