We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

How to Respect a Transsexual Person
This page is about transsexual people, i.e. people born with a brain that is normal for one gender, and chromosomes and an external body that seemed normal for the opposite sex. The term gender, when used below, always means the gender the person identifies as.
Basic Stuff
Accept me as a full-fledged member of the gender I identify as.
Always use the language that corresponds to my gender identity, e.g. he, she, even if my body does not seem to match yet and even when talking about my past.
If you are still adjusting, it's normal to make mistakes. Don't draw attention to it by saying "sorry". Just correct yourself right after and carry on.
If I identify as male, never use female-marked words like girl, waitress, breasts, vagina, etc. to describe anything about me, and vice versa. Always use language that corresponds to my... less

We all had an ice cream at the kiosk and enjoyed the bright and relatively warm spring day. The dog didn´t recognize me any more, to his mind I was a nice, but definitely a new lady, who gave him ice cream and talked to him in a nice way.
Other dog owners stopped and changed some words with us. Probably I looked like a mother with her children enjoying the mother´s day outside, as thousand other moms.

We had sex again but then he got a phone call and said I must leave...another lady is coming up (his girlfriend?). I got mad and said I don´t want to see ever in my eyes again. I left and cried in the bus. A friendly lady came to me and asked what is wrong. I sobbed something about men and she nodded.
The good thing is: the stupid guy still thinks I´m a regular woman. And another good thing is, I think I have one who really loves me. But I live a wild spring, anyway.

But I couldn't get you all off my mind & I need all of you.
I'm just feeling frustration at being in hiding when I realy want out. But I'm not in a position that I can. So I was thinking about giving it up. I know I can't stop being TG but I thought I could stop expressing myself. But as Anna & Mere both said it won't work. In fact the desire has been stronger since I tried. So I guess I keep banging my head on the wall & try to carry on. Sitting behind closed curtains while life passes by outside. Living the lie that I am. I want to dress up & go for a walk so bad but don't dare.
I'm sure my mood will change in time & I'll do my best not to make to many gloomy coments. Please just have patience! less

Could I please ask that when someone politely requests that you do not post their picture in a gallery that you respect that wish. I was told by those who snapping away merrily on saturday night that the pictures would not appear.
I do realise that this will make me come across as some f*ckwit who is over "precious" about their image but it was a simple, polite request from someone who was not happy about how they looked.

I'd like to see this site deliver local community information within its country groups, for example the city I live in does have a group that I could go to, but i've not heard anything about it here and am just totally shy about trying it... just need some convincing to go, others will be in the same boat... I have to ask why this is and what can we do to rectify it?
We have one of the fastest, cleanest and safest chatrooms within the community, staffed by a dedicated team of moderators who ensure it stays that way so it can't be because people are afraid of what they might find in there.
Is it still because you can't have your own picture as in the ancient room? If so there are plenty of new icons to choose from and I'm sure more could be added. Lets face it that is a sad reason not to use a chatroom.
Any thoughts, ideas, feelings etc on this would be gratefully received so we can rebuild the community spirit in the chatroom. If only so we moderators don't get lonely sat in the corner on our own.

I really liked it as it seems to express so much about learning who we are and our journeys through life. Just wanted to share it with my sisters here on TW. And for purposes of attribution it was apparently said in class by a student of Michael Strumpf's who's a co-author of The Grammar Bible. Okay, I admit it, I was an English major, I read weird crap.<lol> It was in the chapter on verbals and present participles, if anyone's interested.<lol>

There was some story about a dude who was locked in the loo for 9 hours at a rugby game. Apparently he was quite drunk, went to the loo, passed out, and, like I said, woke up 9 hours later locked in. He called the cops on his cell for help. His friends never went looking for him because they thought he went home early.
