We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

I admit I can be a pain in the arse but my intentions I like to think are good. I never think of myself and am constantly trying to find ways to make life better for others.
We are a good 30 years behind the gay and lesbian community so whos fault is that? Well only we have the power to change other peoples attitudes and gain acceptance , think about it! No other sod will do it for us.
I get invited to all kinds of things and that includes meetings for transgenders . I sit and I listen to some sitting there moaning about trivial things that a child would shrug off , then I open my mouth when I have heard enough . I tell them so you think the world owes you a favour? Well I tell them it does not , we are who we are just accept it then others will . Does that sound harsh? Well it may sound it but its is feckin true and eventually those people get to realise I was right , I know that... less

Cristine Jennifer Shye.
To me not just a friend , Cristine has got to be and if not one of the most thoughtful and kind hearted woman it has been my pleasure to know. For those of you who just see a beautiful woman then look closer and deeper , look at her work too , it is here for you to learn from just as I have done . Her eyes have seen things that any other person can only imagine , pain beyond belief , I hate comparing her to myself and never can but we do have things in common. Her torture began at the same age as my own , 12 years old , of course it was going on before then but it came out at that age just like me.
She cares so deeply about other people , her life is not selfish and she has a drive to succeed and she will , believe me I know that , she again in some respects like myself will not accept failure. If I could ever choose a daughter it would be you Cristine. I would lay down my life to save yours just as a... less

Here is the conversation and its true.
Good afternoon madam I am from saint whatever he said church ,he did say a name but I can't remember it , its to boring, could have been Saint Fred of the dutch elm disease for all I care but this is feckin hilarious.
Me: You want me to come to your church?
Him: Yes are you interested?
Me: I am not allowed in your church!
Him: Everyone is welcome why do you say that?
Me: I am Transexual!
Him: Oh sorry I did not realise
Me: Bye then.
Him: You can still come along if you wish.
Me: Are you having a laugh?
Him: No i did not realise so others won't
IT GETS BETTER.
Me: But others will realise though.
Him: How.
Me:Because I will tell them if they don't already know me.
Him: Why do you need to tell them?
Me: Because I happen to be proud of it.
Him: Do you believe in God?
Me:No but what difference does that... less

I have only been back on the site for 2 weeks after a 2 year break, but I have noticed the chat room to be very quiet compared to the last time I was here on a regular basis, I was wondering why this is, do you think it needs updating? Have you had any bad experiences ? Do you thing it is over regulated or under regulated? I would be very interested in your opinions girls

About a month ago, I was given a present of a new Cookery/Recipe book, which, once you get over the actual subject matter, is really quite good! It's entitled "Cooking with Road-Kill", and is a lot of recipes for cooking all those animals killed on our roads by traffic.
Having read through a number of the recipes, I thought it might be interesting to try some of them, so, a few weeks ago, I went up into the mountains behind home here, and drove along some of the little side-roads, looking for road-kill. After about an hour of driving around, I got some, brought it home, and butchered it.
Since then, I've tried a number of the recipes, roasting, baking, frying, boiling, etc. Some of them have been better than others, but, overall, they were quite good!
I've now finished it all!
I only have one remaining problem .......... I don't know what to do with his bicycle !!!!!!!!

The Newcastle Klub Kids are creating shocking and extravagant outfits, similar to those of their predecessors the New York Club Kids, to help lure revellers into North East clubs.
The costumes - usually gender-defying and often blood-covered - are highly divergent from the glamorous, sequin-covered gowns of traditional drag queens.
With names as controversial as their costumes,Mutha Tucka, Crystal Meth and Beauty Killer are among the fore-runners of the trend in Tyne and Wear.

Before we go any further, we would like to express our delight at the thousands of nominations that we have received this year for The National Diversity Awards 2013.
Once again, we have had such an unbelievable response, exceeding the amount of nominations we received last year by almost three times the amount.
It’s always difficult to choose who should make the shortlist, and this year was no exception with so many inspirational people/organisations put forward for an award. Upon saying this, it is with regret that we have to let you know that unfortunately you didn’t make this year’s shortlist. It was a very tough decision for our judges to make as each and every nominee that we received was highly deserving of an award.
Despite not making this year’s shortlist, you should be very proud of the work that you have achieved and the effort that you have put in to make your community more inclusive. We have no doubt that you will continue... less

Would this sapphic discovery open new opportunities for you both, would it make coming out easier, does it explain her attraction to you (as a superficial male), does the deceit balance out? All hypothetical of course.. Thoughts and reflections welcomed. Rachel

Since I am out of work, I have lots of time now to contribute my $.02 to GS...you'll get sick of me!
Anyway, my hair is longish now, just covers my ears, quite thick in back, and I thought I might be able to get a cut that is boyish and girlish, like a shaggy pixie. While waiting for my appt, I wandered around the other stores, looked at some styling mags, then went by a store where two young women were setting a display. One had the perfect cut! I went in and told her I really liked her cut, she told me who her hairdresser is, and I called the salon, but her hairdresser is off work today - I wanted to get a cut before my interview Tuesday. So I went back and she allowed me to take some pics with my phone to show the salon I was going to, and she said it was an "Assymetrical Pixie". The other salon person knew what it was and suggested I wait another 1/2 inch of length, not quite long enough. So I was disappointed not to get a cut, but very pleased that everyone was so kind. I was... less

superhuman capacity for detecting trans people! Only 5 seconds! I usually manage 6! Well done you! What a MAN! Yay!
Never been called a panto before! What a dick! Can I say that? Hahaha! Oddly enough the review is quite good.
Over at The Bizarre Pavilion we stumbled upon Taurus Trakker, complete with a New York Dolls drag artist bassist, funny seeing the reaction on faces of people as they realised it was actually a bloke, and I myself was hoodwinked for a good 5 seconds, which is about as long as Boy George fooled me when he first sprang onto Top of The Pops.Panto aside, Taurus Trakker made a great noise – rock ‘n’ roll, foot tapping rock and roll. I could sling them over the rail on an ordinary hanger, but they look a bit silly. I have some hangers with clips on like clothes pegs, which are ideal, but they're all being used. Miniskirts can go in a drawer, but I don't like doing this to longer skirts. Now I have to find where I can buy the hangers I want!

Last night I had a TG meeting, and since "Bill" was working all day, I had plenty of time to get ready and left the house before 5pm. Meeting was over late, and did not arrive home until 11pm, "Bill" already off to bed. I had pulled some shorts on and pulled my skirt off before coming into the house, just in case he got up - he didn't. But I left my skirt, top, bra, and a little lingerie "slip" on a chair downstairs in the computer room/office. So this morning I;m checking email and "Bill" comes in to tell me something, reaches for the pile of clothing to move them off the chair!! "GULP"! I'm thinking "...oh gee, here it comes, that bra is going to get all wrapped up in his hands and here it comes....".
