We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less

Just curious if anyone had any advice on razor bump prevention.
The only place I seem to have a problem is right above the crotch area. I am using a good shaving gel and a multi blade razor but can't seem to overcome the bumps there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

"How can they know? They're too young to know. It's just a phase."
Or
"It's too confusing to tell little ones about TG people/students"
More on this in a moment, but first I have to tell you my personal experience. It will relate to the titles above, so please bear with me.
I was 6 or 7 years old, possibly 8 when I thought I was born a boy and my parents cut off my boy part and made me a girl (basically, I thought I was intersex before I even knew what it was). I honestly don't know how I came up with this notion, but I can take a good guess. Read on.
When I was in kindergarten, all of the girls in the class were making cheerleader pom poms out of construction paper--I can still remember the color, green and yellow--except ME. From what I remember, it was a long term activity that included learning a cheer. Instead of making pom poms, I would be doing extra school work with Brandon, a boy in the class. I became hyper aware of... less

Publius Clodius Pulcher was arrested, and may well have died in prison, for the crime of appearing dressed as a female harpist at a society event in the home of Julius Caesar (100BC-44BC).

If anyone is a transexual then your mind thinks just as any other females does. Okay we do go through a lot to become our true selves as we were in the wrong queue when body's were being handed out but our minds jumped ship at some point.
We live in a world now where modern medicine can correct the mistake nature made. I hear stories from other transexuals about how hard it is to just fit into society. I hear things about body frame and height causing problems and other things too. Unless you want to cut your legs off you are not going to get shorter and my guess is you want to keep your legs. As for body frame genetic females do come in all shapes and sizes too.
I need genetic females in my life and it is nice to know they need me to , as friends. However beautiful they may seem to me or others beleive me they do... less

I am 16months down the track on HRT and thinking more about surgery. Unfortunalety there are quite a few places advertised and as we know word of mouth is the best. Has anyone had or know of anyone who has has surgery in Australia or Thailand and their results, recommendations.
I would be eternally grateful to have my dreams be the best dreams i can.

When I first became aware of transgender people (probably on Oprah way back in the day!), I immediately put myself in their/your shoes (I'm a highly empathetic person and always put myself in other people's shoes--or high heels!). What if I thought and felt the same way I do now, but I was in a man's body? I would feel disgusted, I wouldn't be able to look at myself or touch myself (ew, what's that gross "thingy!"), I would become very unhappy, even severely depressed, I'm sure. I would--hopefully--have the guts to do something about it!

No matter how big or small just good/nice things that happen to you.
There is not a day goes by that something nice happens to me and I am not going to list every single one of them as I would be typing until next Christmas , I would like you to join in too.
Today was a relief more than anything to me. I started my business in 2014 and it started well until I had to find a new business premises , that has been very hard as rental prices are just mental , more so for a new business.
Last week I meet a business man and we got talking about something I had and he wanted. I went to see him today and was talking about how hard it is to find town centre business premises in the town centre which is where I need to be. We were in his premises and he said take a look upstairs , it is empty see if it would suit you.

Yesterday I had time to visit a few places I had not been for a few weeks. The result was , Julia where have you been? And from many people. As an example standing talking to 3 girls one said , Julia you look well , I replied no I look a wreck. She said , no you are glowing then saying doesn't she to the others and they agreed saying why do you put yourself down?. I admit I do , and often and I know I should'nt but I put that down to my past.
I was asked by a publisher to write my life story and it is not nice. I picked 2 friends to proof read it as I complete each 2 chapters. One has now told me she is sorry but she cannot read it. She said if you were a stranger I could but I just cannot read any more because you are to good a friend. I thanked her and said I understand and it does get worse so maybe it is best you stop now , I will now ask someone else... less

I was admitted initially because I had a migraine that was into it's fourth day and because I get nauseous with them I was severly dehydrated as well. The medical staff subjected me to all kinds of examinations including an epidural to check spinal fluid (that just felt so wrong), ultrasound, lung x-ray etc. You can't hide from an ultrasound as it will quickly show that you seem to be missing a womb! lol
It made me feel a little, I don't know, vulnerable perhaps? Or exposed? I can't really explain it very well but it certainly 'outed' me! Of course, going through all of this while pre-op was a little uncomfortable as well. That will also 'out' you!
Anyway, the staff were brilliant and continued to treat me as a woman and placed me in the appropriate room so it was no big deal.
I wonder how many others here have had any... less

These forums are read by people outside , if you look on the left hand side of the home page you will see the guests online. Those guests cannot post or respond but members can. So that is one thing you have that non members do not.
The most important part of this website is the forums. Anyone can ask anything however small and most likely get an answer.
I have witnessed on other trans websites people asking questions then being told stupid things like , do you not how to use google?. That is not an answer it is an insult. The reason it is an insult is because google or any other search engine is not personal , yes it gives answers but it has not lived our lives , it is not human.

As an example yesterday I needed to go to the bank. There was a girl behind the glass and she had a bundle of £50 notes in her hand as she said can I help you? I responded I will just have that Thank you , she said I will lose my job , I said well we can go halves , with a cheeky grin.
So she just asked again how can I help you Miss , I said I just need to pay this cash in so she asked me to put my card into the machine. Once I had done that she knew my name. Julia do you mind me asking what that perfume that is you are wearing? . I said no I don't mind it was named after me , what really she replied. Yes I think it was , it is called So Sinfull. She then asked if I could write it down so she does not forget. She followed that with you should come in more often as I have never served you before. I told her I only come in when I need to but I will have to come back again on Monday , she said I... less

The plastic surgeon told me that I had real problem with my looks and and should have more surgeries. This is too much for me to bear. I am really depressed of my appearance after the surgery. As I had a bad experience with this plastic surgery, I am very anxious and scared about any further surgery. My friend says I suffer from phobia disorder and that needs to be treated. I browsed for good phobia disorders treatment centres and found a one nearby in Toronto (Link removed). Do I really need such a treatment?

I think they say they are dying stars that suck in matter but I guess they are just guessing.
The GS Black hole is much different though , I know what it is. It is a place that sucks in members and they are never seen again , a bit like The burmuda Triangle. New members join and say hello and then vanish or make one post and get no or little response and then vanish.
The GS Black hole holds about 20,000 members. I can see why they never return yet this is one of , if not the best transgender website there is.
Wind back to what this website was before GS and it had more members logging in and more members being active in the forums. It saddens me to see a fantastic place like this not being able to hold on to new members because it can be done.

I always look at things from all angles not just from one side. A one sided story is normally about someone trying make out they have not made a mistake. Cristine is the law expert here but she also knows me well , I think she understands my view on the topic.
It is my honest opinion , and it is just my opinion. I have to think of the others affected by someone elses actions. That is most likely because I have witnessed a similar situation first hand. I witnessed the tears from a Mother and Daughter yet the transgender person was only thinking of them self.
