We had to change the name because the word ‘tranny’ became increasingly toxic and we had to change our rickety old software because the developers would no longer support it.
I vaguely remember we had asked the existing members to come up with a new name and Gender Society won. I think a lot of our members at the time wanted us to distance our community from the other cattle market sites out there so we needed to sound more respectable.Trannyweb was a busy and vibrant community though (started in 1999) with lots of people online at any one time. The forums were the jewel in the crown as you can see from the huge number of threads and forum posts (which by the way, are still available today).
The transition to The Gender Society took place in 2011. Unfortunately, a lot of the long-time regulars who used to be permanently logged in, didn’t like the change... less

Gender variant (trans or transgender) people are relatively rarely seen in GP surgeries. Many GPs say that they lack the knowledge to treat those experiencinggender variant conditions and, consequently, they are not confident to do so.The first part of this publication provides an overview of care for trans people that is particularly applicable to GPs. Hormone therapy is central to transgender primarycare, and issues such as assessment and diagnosis are also relevant to general practice. These topics are discussed in greater detail in Annexes C and D. Clinical care for gender variant people should be provided within a framework of good practice that emphasises patient autonomy, allows for the wide variety of needs among trans people and is flexible in its clinical responses to those needs. It should also take account... less

I just wished you were in the states to give such accurate content, but then under this current administration and political conflict I think you might find it quite egregious,
There was a time in the states when we were moving in a very positive direction, sadly we have faltered and at best stagnated our trans direction.

When Trannyweb became the Gender society I gathered a few people to become site moderators lovely helpful team, keeping the site clear of trolls, keeping the home page clear of sleaze and wiping out literally 1000's of spams. Shame that when I stepped back from heading up that team due to studying and work I was unable to devote as much attention as the site needed many of the site and forum mods just seemed to vanish, lose interest. I will always remember some advice Katie gave mewhen in the early days of being a mod, I was verbally abused, it upset me and I threatened to leave,Katie said if someone on your land line gives you grief, do you cut your phone off. The longer after puberty hormone therapy is started, the less effective it is--but not a linear scale, e.g., results are considerably more dramatic in an 18 year old than a 28 year old, but results are not on the average dramatically different between a 38 year old and a 48 year old.
The following effects have been observed in varying degrees--anywhere from little to moderate--with extended treatment. With effective and continuous dosages, most of the changes that a particular body is genetically prone to start within 2 to 4 months, will start leveling off somewhat within 2 years, and be mostly done within 5 years. The leveling may take longer if the testes are not removed. High levels of estrogen will cause faster development up to a point, but not better results in the long term than moderate levels of estrogen..
Fertility decreases. Sperm count drops rapidly. Sometimes it returns to almost normal if hormonal treatment is... less
To know oneself
Look in the mirror,
Not as you are
But as you would be.
Is that you?
Who, then?
To thine own self,
Says the poet,
Be true.
True? To what?
When thine own self is unknown.
Unknowable.
Someone else.
Look in the mirror and reflect.
If wishes were horses,
beggars would still be beggars
And the mirror image,
Though but mere light on glass,
Tells more than you want to know

I write rarely and even then badly, but I write what I feel at the time. This is one of my poems that I have posted on "thestarlitecafe.com" site.
The Connection
There are lots of connections
people use them all the time
to get that better job
and to earn another dime
We connect with people
talk sports or the arts
based on interests common
soon a friendship starts
We all have acquaintances,
buddies and pals abound
but bonds of the heart
these are few to be found
The connection of the heart
goes far beyond the friendship bond
to a place of wonder
like the touch of a magic wand
It could start with a smile,
a laugh, a touch or a gaze
but you know in an instant
they're the one for the rest of your days
You know before they talk
what they are going to say
and ending one another's sentences
becomes the rule of the day
Their feelings and emotions
you know from afar
and when you speak of it
neither think it bazaar
Not a casual affair
this is more than affection
even love doesn't... less

My view on why that happened is simply because it was just too wide open. Random people wrote ever more random things. Of course, that can be part of the fun but it can also lead to a hasty demise through a lack of interest from those trying to make sense of it.
So I'm thinking of asking for volunteers willing to commit a small amount of time to this project. You could register your interest here and, say, come the New Year, if we have half a dozen commited people we can give it a go.
The thread would be titled as . The names would be added by random selection and we write in strict rotation. Anybody else trying to add to the thread later will have their posts deleted. That way we get some sort of integrity to the story whilst still allowing it to be swayed by the people contributing.
Does that make sense?
Do you fancy it?

As some will know my health isn't quite 100% and I've spent the past month in a series of workshops run by the NHS under the title of the Condition Management Programme. Excellent course, but very very tiring!
So just to try and inject a small squawk of excitement, I've rooted around my computerised archives and selected a piece of verse for you all.
This is a particular favourite of mine. I was in a Devon graveyard, as happens from time to time, and there was a fantastic, large old yew tree growing by the graves. And I could imagine the roots breaking through them and feeding from the natural compost that was available. Not as morbid as it sounds, I thought it quite a good thing. I could almost see the personalities being absorbed! .
Ok, have a read and let me know your thoughts...

I first met her almost twelve years ago. I was walking my Golden Retriever, Rocky, down the street in my East
Bay suburb. She began walking along with us. Rocky was very excited, she was a black Labrador Retriever. I
noticed at the time she seemed to be more interested in me than my dog. After a long walk she stayed with us
right up to my front door. Rocky obviously wanted to let her in, but since she had a collar I wanted her to go
to her home so she was left on the porch.
We'd had other dogs follow us home and after the door closed they'd get bored and wander off, but not this dog.
She took up residence on the front porch and went with us every day when I took Rocky for his walk. This caused
some problems, like when she followed me into a local Chinese restaurant and market while Rocky was tied with
his leash outside. The Chinese lady owner was very upset and I don't think she believed me... less

This is a piece I wrote some years ago. You'll be pleased that it reflects a time and place I've long since moved on from. Despite its apparent bleak subject matter, it remains close to my heart. I like its simplicity. The structure and discipline of its pace which seems at odds to the chaos it hints at. And, for me, its concise. . What do you think?
If I Die.
If I die in my sleep it's a bonus,
If I die by my hand it's a chore,
If I die in an accident at least
I endure my existence no more.
It's not that I want just to exit,
It's not that I live without fear,
It's not that my mind is dejected,
I just pray that my death is quite near.
I just don't have the will to continue,
I just don't have the strength to go on,
I just don't have the zest for existence,
It's time for goodbye and so long.

For my money - which was about $45 or £27 depending on the exchange rate - it pretty much covers everything you're ever going to need. Timelines, plotlines, profiles, photo's, music, to name just a small number of features. And it looks cool to boot.
It wasn't quite as easy to operate as I'd like but didn't take too long to get up and writing. It does - rarely - have the propensity to freeze up (but that might be more to do with my pc).
But it's not just for the bigger things in life. I get the impression it's pretty good at handling multiple articles - Tribune contributors take note!
