i remember watchin the development of a hostile attitude to a trannie in a slum area of brooklyn, and there were some subsequently very harrowing scenes.
Not a film for the faint hearted, when i saw it a few years ago, i cried for most of that night and had dreams about the film for a good couple of weeks.
Made me rethink on a hedonistic approach to life, i'll tell you!.

Having read the book by Hubert Selby JR, which was first copyrighted in 1957.  I can tell you this is a harrowing tale of drink, drugs and drag. The rape scenes in the book are very graphic, not for the faint hearted.
If the movie is faithful to the original works then it's well worth seeing.
Anybody know where I can get a copy?
