A poem, written in doubt

    Mirror Image

    To know oneself
    Look in the mirror,
    Not as you are
    But as you would be.
    Is that you?
    Who, then?
    To thine own self,
    Says the poet,
    Be true.
    True? To what?
When thine own self is unknown.
    Unknowable.
    Someone else.

Look in the mirror and reflect.
    If wishes were horses,
    beggars would still be beggars
    And the mirror image,
Though but mere light on glass,
Tells more than you want to know

    Hi Emily

I like your poem and what it says. You are not alone in looking in the mirror and wondering who it is, certainly not the person we think we are.

    Thank you for posting.

    Hi Emily,

I read your poem and it rang true for me. For a TG, mirrors are a big deal for sure. Does my make up look right? Is my skirt too short? Do my accessories work together or are they too matchy-matchy? Most importantly, as your poem explores, is that the real me?

    Thanks for posting,
    Melody
