I have been trying different lipsticks & need help in knowing whay colors to choose.
I mean to I try to match it with what I'm wearing or go by something else.
Also is there someway to get it to stay on longer? It seems like I have to redo it all the time.

  • Hi Karen-

Well, as far as color, that seems to be a personal preference kind of thing, though coordinating it with your outfit seems like a good idea. You know, something in the same color palette depending on what you have on or maybe to add some color and contrast. One thing I have heard over and over is if you're really doing your eyes, like a very dramatic look, then your lipstick should be more subdued and the other way around, also, if you want to wear a bright lippy then you should play down your eyes. If you do both, dramatic eyes and bright red lipstick, you kind of wind up with that hooker look. (What's wrong with that, Joni asks.) You probably already know all about that anyway, I guess it's silly to even mention it.

I know Cover Girl makes a two part lip color product, because I just went to my makeup case and looked. It consists of a color layer and a seperate topcoat that adds shine. The color part is fine by itself if you want a matte look, the clear coat makes it glossy and kind of "wet" looking. It stays on really well and you can eat and drink and it won't come off when you wipe your lips. One thing though, is to avoid salty foods like chips and nuts and so on which will make it come off for some reason. Good health tip there anyway.<lol> One thing you should be aware of though is that it stays on really, really well. You will have to scrub your lips with a washcloth if you really want to make sure it's all gone. There are probably other makers out there, too, but that's the one I know about.

Just out of curiosity, what's the problem with whipping out your lipstick and touching up? To me, it's one of the girliest things things you can do.<lol>

    Hugs...Joni Marie

    Thanks Joni
There's nothing wrong with fixing your lipstick. I just don't want to do it every 30min.
I will check out Cover Girl.

  • I got one of the in-store makeovers to try a few looks - day, evening etc. They are pretty good at getting the right colours to suit. You do have to watch out though, some of them will tend to go OTT.

Better quality usually lasts longer. Usually!

And I have found using a sealer works well for me, the lipstick will stay fresh looking for at least couple of hours (even cheap ones) plus you get a glossy finish.

  • Karen, The colour is purly a personal choise but for long lasting lip colour try Max Factors Lipfinity range, its a lip colour that stays with a clear gloss both together. It lasts for ages and if you need to re-apply just the gloss will do.
    Hope that helps

  • Lipfinity is pretty good, I use that most of the time because it stays on well and doesn't come off on your glass or coffee cup, well not much anyway.

  • Like Rae, I also tend to use a lip gloss rather than lipstick. Lately I have been using a colored gloss by Cover Girl called Wetslicks. The color seems to hold up for a few hours and maybe more important is my lips tend to be noticeably smoother. Also for those who don't use gloss because their long hair sticks in it, Wetslicks is what the name implies, that it is slippery not sticky like other gloss, so long hair does not stick in your lips.

  • I quite like leaving lipstick marks on glasses but i tend to use a straw to prolong the wear.
Out of the range of colours I tend to stick with 2 main colours. One is slighly fuller than my natural colour to enphasise the rouge of my lips, the other colour is a dark plum for when I wear my gothy attire. I choose colours to match my complexion ie a hot pink wouldnt suit me because im dark unlike some blonde girls where it looks fabby, other than that I guess colour is all down to personal taste. theres nothing like a bit of experimenting with cheap lipsticks to find the colours that are favourable and then buying a more expensive match to get a quality even coverage and longevity.

    have fun!

oh, i tend to need to retouch my lippy about 2-3 times an evening until i reach the point where im too drunk to care lol

  • I usually use gloss tbh, lipstick just doesn't suit me. The colours are always way too much and make me look really awful.
I like Maxilicious lip polish, it is a really glossy lip gloss with sparkly bits in it, but you will still need to re-apply (unless you refrain from eating, drinking, kissing and talking!)
Why don't you give a gloss a go? Here's the one i use http://www.maxfactor.nu/m[...]usGlitz Not in the colour though, i go for a very neutral peach colour, which doesn't really look like a colour.

  • Sparkly gloss is nice for the evening but too much for daytime I think. I do love Max Factor's range though, most of my make up comes from them as it's always good quality, long lasting although lipsticks I usually get from Clinique as they stay on very well without having to constantly reapply.

  • I'd recommend Clinique long last lipstick (can find it on ebay).
Use a lipbrush, miles better than straight from the stick, blot, re-apply, blot again (very lightly blot).
When you need to touch up after eating or drinking or snogging, use the lipbrush!
Buy a good lipbrush - it's essential, I have a nice retractable one which is great for carrying around in the handbag.
You don't need to match the colour with what you're wearing, it just needs to look right on your face. Use something close to the natural lip colour for the day, or anything that is not to striking, and wear whatever makes you feel good for the evening.
I spent a fortune trying different types and colours, Almost always I now only use two colours, Clinique "All Heart" for the day, and "Deep Lacquer" for the evening, a lovely deep red.
For UK girls Body Shop lippy is pretty good too, nice and firm so not easily smudged.
I tried several of the types that are supposed to last forever without the need to re-apply but they just make my lips look dry and crinkly, and to be honest, none of them do what they claim.
One other alternative that I quite like though is Lip Ink, which is more like a temporary stain for the lips with a clear gloss to make them, um, glossy. It's pretty good, but takes a bit of getting used to. If you buy any please tell them Lucy from Kendal recommended it to you!
I do not believe there is any lip product that will not need re-applying after a plate of spareribs and a couple of glasses of wine. So you just need to find what works best for you and re-apply as needed.
    And buy a good lipbrush!!!

Definately concur with the lipbrush - and that long last lipstick will last even longer! :)
