I wish I could say that I wrote this. It's an extraordinary opinion article on the subject. I'm sure it will set off an interesting thread.

    Wendy--

Interesting, indeed. And very true and telling.

Wonder why there's no threads posted?

After Mina's post I decided to read through this article again because the first time was just a quick scan. I think the latest thread where I expressed a different opinion than most is a fine example of what this story is about. Another recent thread here is the one on republicans. Both basically ask for opinions but opinions outside the stereotypical TG community are not acceptable. We are suppose to be good socialist liberals just because we are transgender, bull puckey. I'm proud to say I am a successful conservative transsexual with my own business, my family, and a church I participate in. So it doesn't really bother me when others disagree or argue with what I have to say. I have faced numerous tough obstacles in my life and worked my way through them to where I am today. I don't expect anything to be given to me, I think that is biggest difference between me and the majority of the TG community. Others can be "victims" if they want, not me.

I admit to having just skim read that article too, and thought it interesting. It amazes me that there is a notion that we should all embrace each other once we accept who we are. As someone recently said, 'bull puckey' (whatever that means, but I can guess). I embrace what I want to, not what others feel I should. That probably sets me apart from many as I don't do the scene, TG bars, clubs etc. I just live a normal life. I don't agree with a lot of what goes on in the TG community but then I don't agree with much of what goes on in the community as a whole either, that's just life. I don't feel I 'belong' to any particular group and I don't feel the need to belong either, I like my individualism thankyou very much.

    Ladies--

Nice to know I'm not the only one who values a different viewpoint! I thought it might just be me.

I am also a reasonably successful conservative TS; I don't embrace the bar scene and partner swapping lifestyle. (I am an awful flirt, but that's part of who I am in life. A girl might as well have some fun.) I do embrace the fact we all have opinions, and that we have much to gain from each other.

I still feel we need to distance ourselves from the LGB movement...as a TS, I feel that many of us simply want to blend in, not stand out. We want to live as women, not necessarily as sex-toys. (Though sex isn't a bad thing, either. )

I'm no victim. I've worked hard to get where I am today, and that work has (finally) started to pay off. I didn't get here by playing victim, nor did I get here by bemoaning the tired old "I'm a women trapped in a man's body" routine. (I tell people who ask that I'm a woman with spare parts. More positive that way.)

In fact, I think as a TS we not only need to think more about how others see us (Heck, I'd settle for more of us just thinking!), but in how we see ourselves. We aren't a "what", we are a "who."

I realize my opinion may not sit well. That's okay...it's my opinion, and I respect your opinion as well.

    Dialogue with me, ladies.

    Luv 'n hugs,

    Mina

I couldn't agree more about distancing ourselves from the LGB crowd, not that I have anything against them but their issues are different to ours and we don't belong packaged with them. Is it because we are transgendered that we MUST be lesbian, gay or bisexual as well? It makes as much sense as calling it the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Redheads group!! Utter nonsense.
