Survey on Trans People and the Media

  • "Trans Media Watch, in association with the Scottish Transgender Alliance, is running a survey looking at the effect of the media on transgender people's lives.

This could help to establish the evidence needed to challenge transphobic publishers and programme-makers. Please consider taking part."

This survey appears to bed aimed at residents of the British Isles However, it did allow questions to go unanswered that related to UK television and newspaper services. It permitted me to complete it. Since I read UK online newspaper sites daily, I felt it would not skew their findings.

  • I completed it but it's a shame some of the questions have strict answers, often I found I didn't actually agree with any of the proposed answers.

  • You can just skip any questions you do not feel able to answer. Hopefully, they will get the message for their next survey.

  • Well, I filled it out. On the basis that every drop that flows in the right direction can contribute to the river.

And any chance at influencing the portray of Trans people on the media into a better direction is worth taking, even if the effect is tiny.
It's OK to take baby steps.

And don't forget our own surveys which are among the largest and longest running of their kind. Our data is already being used by the University of Leeds and Manchester University, in a number of ways to help our cause.

If you have not already taken a TW Survey, please go to the following page now and become part of it...
