Our New Name...

If things go to plan we should be revealing our new name a bit later today. I so hope you will like it (or at least not mind it and understand how it came about).

Remember, we did have a very long consultation period of nearly a year. We needed a name that doesn't have the word tranny in it, because that word has become toxic in recent months.

Our new name needs to imply that we are a kind of association (because there's strength in numbers) and that we are a family of like-minded people.

The new name also had to be one which was available and not already registered elsewhere. That proved to be very difficult.

However, I think we have managed to come up with something which does fulfil all of the above criteria.

To change the name, Eric the programmer will have to take the site offline for a short time and do difficult things with the database and other high level stuff that I don't understand.

Then, as soon as he's finished, Alex, the server administrator, will move our server to a new, pristine netblock. As soon as the site comes back online I will upload the new header which will contain the new name.

I realise that some people won't like it but they could not do any better than we have. The whole process has been completely transparent and our members have been involved from the start.

Remember, we're not unveiling a new site. It'll be exactly the same site as before but with a different name.

It will also take some time to replace every instance of the word, "Trannyweb" around the site so please be patient.

Please also accept my apologies now for the down-time we are about to experience when the site goes offline.

Thanks Trannywebbers - it's been good. See you on the other side with a new name and hopefully, a new and exciting future!

    Hugs, Katie x

    Dearest Katie-

Thank you for all time, work and effort you have put into the name change as well as time, work and effort you put into the site behind the scenes all the time, not to mention the expense involved.

I can't imagine that anyone could have any reasonable objection to the name change given all the opportunity for input and comment that you've afforded us. Personally, I can't wait to see the new and improved Trannyweb. Hopefully the change will go seamlessly and everyone will be understanding and supportive of what needed to be done, life is all about change, after all.

    Hugs...Joni Mari

I'm glad you think so. Alex, the server administrator and I are all ready to go but so far there's no sign of Eric.

This could take some time. Don't hold your breath!

TRANNYWEB TRANSGENDER NEWS Feed is standing by to change the name of our publication. How about a party in the Chat Room to celebrate our makeover? I am thrilled that we are all still here despite the ignorant worst that some have tried to do to end us. The first news article in the news feed will be:

    TRANNYWEB IS NOW..........

Well, even I do not know the new name, lol, but our reporters are waiting by the Red Carpet to see it when it steps from the limousine and the cameras start to flash. In the final moments leading up to the great event, thousands wait with baited breathe to know what only a select few know right now....the new name for our home.

    And the new name is...

    Splungerb.com

Ha, only kidding. You'll have to wait a tiny bit longer. Eric has finally surfaced and will start the work in just under an hour from now. Therefore, the site will go down just after 8pm Vancouver time.

I have no idea how long it will take to make the changes (maybe an hour or two) but please keep checking back to see if we are up and running again.

Remember, we are not getting a new site. We are only changing the name you see at the top of the screen. We also have to make lots of changes to the software to enable the new domain name and we are taking the opportunity to also carry out some essential maintenance work.

The new site will come back up on a server that have a new IP address (and a whole new pristine netblock for the techies amongst you), which has never been associated with trannies or porn or anything like that.

    I'm soooo excited!!!

    Hugs,

    Katie x

Well the transition to our new name proved to be a bit of a nightmare. It took several hours to complete and I was up until 5am GMT. Feeling a bit under the weather today.

My apologies for any inconvenience that caused but we don’t change our name very often. We had to do it on a Friday evening too, because Eric is always available on Saturdays to put things right if there are problems.

You can now get to the site via the old domain, trannyweb.com (which will be phased out over time) but you can now use our new domains too. There are:

    gendersociety.com and thegendersociety.com

You will have noticed that the word Trannyweb is still all over the site. That's because over more than a decade, we have added it tens of thousands of times so it will be impossible to remove completely. It's good to have the occasional reminder of our roots though.

However, we will be spending much time on removing as many instances of Trannyweb as possible over the coming days and weeks. Anyway, hope you like the name. If you want to become more involved with the new Gender Society, please let me know.

And don't forget, Gender Society Lifetime Membership is now available.

    Hugs,

    Katie x

Joanne, the first time I logged in this morning it came up with a trannyweb.com page, but once I used the menu buttons and links I got the gendersociety.com pages. You might just do that then try to bookmark the page you like to start with.

I was chatting this afternoon on Facebook with a post-op TS who I've known for years through her blog and e-mails, but had never actually talked to her in real time. I referred to TGS and mentioned the old name, Trannyweb, to her and she immediately replied that she was very wary of our site. She said she was suspicious of any site with "tranny" or "TV" in it's name, comparing them to TVChix. (I've never been to that site, but nothing I've heard is good...)
I wonder how many girls like her were turned off by the old name?
Even if the Google ads thing doesn't work out, maybe the name change will be a very positive thing ongoing.

    Best,
    Melody
