I posted a poll on the new site, and although only 6 responses have happened so far the results are:

    On-line (2 responses)

By myself in male mode (0 responses)

By myself in female mode (2 responses)

With a girl friend in female mode (2 responses).

So How do you prefer to shop?

Hi Michelle, great idea for a poll, hon. Personally I prefer to shop with someone else's credit card if I can. Oh just kidding.<lol> I will zip on over to the new digs and put in my two cents worth. However, since I'm guessing you can choose only response, I would like to say that while I prefer to shop in girlmode, if I'm in a store and see something I like I will snatch it up in male mode anyway. And I do love shopping with a tg friend or with my wife. However shopping with the Mrs often leads to words like, "age appropriate" or "a little revealing, dontcha think?" or "you're not going to go out in that, are you?".<lol>

I love the excitement and adrenylin rush when shoping for clothes. I've only bought them in male mode however and haven't even done that for ages, since I told my wife about Penny, apart from stockings and tights, as my wife has either been with me or has ordered clothes for me on-line.

Sometimes, I think I miss the secrecy as shopping for ladies clothes sure was fun, if a bit stressful! The smile on my face leaving the shop was always worth it though! lol

Personally I would love to try shopping en femm (specially with a tg friend), but mainly Ive shopped in male mode, I believe people assume I'm shopping for a gift or Im errand shopping. Eitherway, I do love shopping in person, the sensation of making the actual purchases is a great high for me. Especially when the piece combines like what I thought it would with the rest of my cloths.

Thanks for bringing this to mind today.

Well At first I would shop with my GG friend and that was cool because we both wear the same size in cloths and shoes, how fun is that!  I have also started going by myself in guy mode and I doesn't even matter to the sales ladies, I guess a sales is a sale.    I have also discouvered thrift stores and I have found some wonderful pieces there and no questios asked.

I prefer shopping fully dressed along with a GGfriend (usually my older sister or my best friend Fiona) as I know from experience that skirt/dress sizes are not standardised no matter what it says on the label  Plus I love using the womens changing rooms and of course enjoying the day out as woman.

I very  much prefer Shopping en femme , and using the changing rooms to make sure its right now . I am not 24/7 yet but am transitioning . ,  In the past I would have shopped in Guy mode and it just didnt feel right . One exception was when I went into a UK shop  Long Tall Sally , specialists for tall women . I picked out a dress and the lady to my surprise said  "do you want to try it on " I said yes .  . What I particularly like now is finding those lovely shops where the staff are really helpful rather than being the sales are sales as shirley aptly puts it . Its really nice when someone  helps you and I dont mind going back to those shops..

I would prefer in girl mode but haven't the nerve. Shopping is shopping though and a rush. I take dresses into the womans and no one bats an eye.

I live full time. I shop as most other women do. I pass well. I don't have any problems buying clothes. I'm confident enough about myself to use the womens changing rooms when shopping.

Sometimes Heather I shop on line, or at a size 10 I just go to any womens clothing store, some times with my wife, although her and I take about the same size, we have a different style choices, some things we swap back and forth. I just wore one of her business jackets and blouse. So in essence, we enjoy shopping together. Same goes for jewelry, although earings are totally different between us usually.

Michelle I usually go my myself in male mode to buy. If I see something that I like then I buy. Yesterday i was looking at bras in male mode. I came home checked the size then went back today and bought. Same with shoes if I see and I think it might fit I try them.

Impulsively. Earlier this week for no reason other than I had been thinking about it, bought a new dress and skirt and a couple of tops. Just had to have them (off the sale rack, naturally) Shopped in male mode as I was on my way to work.

I buy online, selling stuff on Ebay pays for it. I did buy some Tights on one of the two occasions i have been out into the wider world in trans mode and it seemed to go OK.

My favorite way to shop is on eBay, although I do go shopping in male mode from time to time.

I usually buy either online or in male mode - only tried on in a couple of shops and none of them were mainstream - may have to go to the ladies changing areas with a dress next time i am buying

One thing I have learned is that everyone in the stores are on a mission and are so involved in there own shopping that they don't even notice other people especially in the grocery stores.  I have also found the department stores are the same.  So I guess like all the rest of the women in stores, I AM ON A MISSION, LOL

Generally I prefer shopping while I'm dressed as a girl and with a girlfriend. Going together is more fun....

But, nothing beats the look on a sales persons face when I am dressed as a male and in a womens store and ask to try something on *wciked grin*.

Most of the time, I choose to shop online. I work from home so any mail or packages are delivered to me. When I came out the first time back in the late 90's, I had things shipped to my PO Box. I was a regular at Silhouettes. I think they are out of business now. Mostly I buy from Amazon. If I buy from other vendors, they would start sending catalogs to me. Hate to explain that if my wife actually went and got the mail one day. There have been a few close calls when a vendor sent a catalog to Emma. How the heck they got my new address I will never know.
Most of the clothes I have now are my wife's old big girl clothes. Her skirts and a few tops fit. She won't be wearing them anytime soon as she lost all the weight with the stomach surgery. My only problem is lack of cash. Until I get out from under that $2k a month of child support, I don't have much for expendable cash.

I have shopped the thrifts but I really like Kohls store. They have clothes MY size and unisex dressing rooms. So even in drab I can grab a handful and head to the dressing rooms. Also their sales are great so I am getting NEW clothes. So nice. Undies I do mostly on line as I know what I like and can wait for sales. Shoes are from payless, get the bogo sales and you can do pretty good. I stock up on make up when in the big city. It is just fun to shop and even in drab, blending with other women shoppers.

For me, the only way to shop is to spend a day with a girlfriend or two browsing the shops in the morning, trying on lots of outfits and buying a few. Then it's time to enjoy a little lunch in a cafe before round two in the afternoon.

Online is convienient (I can never spell that word correctly) but it's dicey when buying something other than a t-shirt. I really need to try stuff on, and if I have to return something, it's easier in person than playing the whole back and forth with an online store.

Plus, me and a good girlfriend of mine love to shopping together, so it's an activity. It's fun. Online isn't the same. I only buy online when I search high and low through my city and can't find what I'm looking for.

I agree that finding something in person, and being able to try it first, is optimal. Unfortunately that doesn't work well in my case. My town is small and doesn't have a lot of options for shopping.

However, I do mitigate the hassles of online returns by ordering only clothing that has measurements included. This is especially true on eBay. If an item doesn't have measurements given, I pass on it. There's plenty of sellers who do take the time to provide measurements, and some of my best finds have been found online.

(now to plan for a trip to the big city for some shopping...)
