Injustice at Every Turn: A Report of the National Transgender Di

A groundbreaking report was just published in 2011, entitled "Injustice at Every Turn:  A Report of the National Transgender Discrimination Survey," by Jaime M. Grant, Ph.D., Lisa A. Mottet, J.D., Justin Tanis, D.Min. with Jack Harrison, Jody L. Herman, Ph.D., and Mara Keisling, in conjuction with the National Center for Transender Equality and the National Gay and and Lesbian Task Force.

The report paints a stark picture of pandemic discrimination against transgender people in education, health, family life, housing, public accommodations, identification documents, from police and in incarcerations.

The study surveyed 6,450 gender non-conforming persons, from all 50 states, the District of

Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The report made my heart ache because of the statistics concerning suicide attempts, under- or unemployment, employment discrimination, and poverty.  I can only imagine the human stories behind the statistics for harrassment and violence.
