Another ignorant joke aimed at trans genders

I'm not really sure who Blake Lively is, but she obviously feels it's fine to use slurs about trans genders while doing interviews.  Check the story.

  • What's next? Is she going to say she is having a "shemale day"? This isn't any different than someone throwing around the word "fag" which always gets a lot of people worked up (understandably). The transgendered are one of the last groups that are acceptable targets evidently.

  • I dunno, I use the word tranny a bunch myself as a term of affection rather than as a slur, and I don't think any serious harm was meant by it, I mean the joke was tacky sure, but still just a joke tbh I'd rather have someone make a light hearted joke about how they want TG kids so they can dress them up rather than some of the hateful things that politicians say about us in all seriousness. I personally take the former as compliment at how awesome we are :P

    I think there s a difference between
    - an informal use of the phrase between people , where there is a kinda of feeling its okay you knaow what I am talking about , no offence taken and its a private conversation
    - a person obviously speaking in the media.
Maybe someone in the public eye feels they should be understood properly. - But the truth is using the term Tranny in public media is offensive , and has been historically used in the media in a derogatory way targetting offensive

I'm as tranny as they come, lol, quite a few people on here find it offensive in any circumstances, Personally I call myself a tranny, simply, I use it in the same way that gays call themselves gay, to me the term tranny encompasses, transvestite, transgendered, transexual. All one. Its only offensive to me if its acompanied by words like weirdo and pervert, or said with a sneer

  • Ditto there Christine, luv the pic, so creative.
I call myself a tranny also. IMHO on this matter, I would much rather be called a tranny and not a cross-dresser ( hate that term ) or a far more derogatory word as far as I am concerned, transvestite. When I hear that word, it brings images of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Now I have nothing against that movie, except I take it in bad taste in the way of the movie stereotyping TG's
The only other name I would prefer to be called is a transgendered person, which encompasses the whole community.

I have been reading over the responses, and i have to say I can agree to a point with all of them, both for and against. I mean, I use the word at home and am ok with it, I guess the way an African American might use the "N" word in their inner circles. But I think people outside our world should just be conscious of the fact that it could be offensive to us. As I have written in response to a lot of stories at the huffpost news, outside our world, words like this are only used in three contexts, porn, hate, and ignorant jokes. I don't think I have ever heard anyone outside our world use this word when it DIDN'T have a negative feeling behind it, and while words don't kill, the hate that they breed could.

  • Hi Briana. To me the issue is about being sensitive in its use. These days words meanings are so varied and so many people use them with different intent behind them. For me personally tranny isn't a big deal usually but I can totally see a good reason to make people think twice before using it. The only reason I ever use it is in a relaxed personal low key envirement. Any type of public statement or official use of it is out of the question for me. In a relaxed friendly situation the use of it kills the power of the negativity and hate associated behind it. What I can't stand is people who have no intimate knowledge of what that word entails. This issue is very similar to african americans using the N word or women calling each other "bitch". I NEVER say the n word and only very rarely say "bitch" in jest to friends. Nothing is more annoying though then seeing people who are removed from intimate connections using the word as a power play to make themselves appear more significant. If you are going to use these words, you better be well aware of the sensitivity surrounding these words and zip it if you have any doubt about how it will be taken by others. xxx J

Jesica, it looks like our stance is very similar on this, in fact, your post defines what I felt better than what I wrote does. We use the term "bitch" all the time at home, and it's usually responded to with, "you say that like it's a bad thing". But I totally agree that their use in a more intimate setting takes away some of the power of negativity. Chrissy has some very good valid points also. everyone needs to have a little thicker skin. But I too, never use the "N" word. I agree that no "label" should be used by anyone that doesn't have intimate knowledge of the word and the pain it can inflict. I may use the term tranny at home, but that word has never passed Lee's lips as far as I can remember. the world may be too PC, BUT, these labels are the beginning stages of hate, and hate is the fuel for violence.

  • Human malice for ya.

Stupidity too, just like so many humans.

Remember this line from Men In Black?

"People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it!"-Tommy Lee Jones

    It is so true.

People as a mass, are incredibly stupid!

This is just more proof of this.

As for me, I take offense to the weirdest, often dumbest things. Yes, this might be offensive to me as well.

But the biggest offender has nothing to do with trans gender discrimination.

If anyone discriminates against me for my mental illness there will be HELL to pay!!!
