"let's sue"

The current trend in the US seems to be sue - anybody and everybody.  I can understand the everybody part since everybody denies liability.
Case in point - there was the fertilizer plant which had a fire. The fire caused a terrific explosion. The explosion wiped out half of the town. The latest news - lawyers (no offense intended Crissie) from all over the state are signing up people for a class action suit.
You may ask "What about the people's homeowners/renters insurance?" The insurance companies, which insured the fertilizer plant, are jointly suing the fertilizer plant's owner.
Confusing to me but that seems to be how things are handled. If you don't like something - sue.
Of course you'll have big trouble suing a "mega corporation." They have a bunch of lawyers waiting to slap you down.

    Any comment?
    This isn't a blond moment.

  • I just checked the latest news:
"Nearly 70 federal and state investigators are still trying to determine what caused the inferno that set off the explosion..."
So no-one knows what caused it yet lawyers are already planning to sue, presumably once they know on what grounds!
Who knows, it may actually have been an accident...
Yes, the USA is a litigious society, sadly I think the UK may be following in their footsteps.

  • I'm not going into Litigation or Corporate law, my specialised field be the European charter of human rights and the Gender Recognition act. I will eventually be responsible for seeking judgements for breaches of peoples rights. then the member of the team who's forte is Litigation will then be responsible for suing the ass of the transgressors, lol.

  • Yes, the UK seems to be going down the "sue everything that moves" route too Mary. The problem started when the law firms were allowed to advertise on television, "tripped and fell did you - sue the pants off them for your pain and suffering" doesn't seem to matter that you were too busy chatting to a friend to notice the obstacle in your way - and other stuff such as this.
Criminal gangs are now deliberately causing car accidents so that they can sue the insurance companies for damages.
