Define a monster

  • What does it mean to be a monster? Is it to be monsterous? Or os it something less easily defined?

Is a bear a monster when is malls a child, it certainly is an monsterous creature, but that description is only accurate when a human sees it, the bear is only acting upon instinct it is only acting according to instinct.

Also a being that cannot comprehend morality cannot be a monster. A being that does somthing that is, by our standards, monsterous but does not comprehend how wrong it is, is not a monster, monsterous yes, but not a monster, this is why the idea of original sin is so very heavily ridiculed by acedemics. If a child was playing with a lighter and unknowingly killed people in a fire, if the child had no knowlage of fire or death the child would not be called a monster.

So only a sentient creature could ever be a real monster.

Morality and thus the defenition of monstrocity is entirly subjective. We don't call ourselves monsters when we poison termites, despite what the termites may think.

So perhaps a devil is a monster, a devil and a daemon are sentient of there action and can comprehend morality, so clearly they would qualify as monsters, yes? No, a daemon is not doing something monsterous for the sake of being monsterous, daemons act in monster-like ways because they have different moral standards to us little mortals. It is not against their morals to act wickedly

Ones morality and perspective must be considered when defigining such a thing as a monster.

SO the only real deffenition of a monster is something that turns against its nature. Something that understands what it is doing is evil but either does not care or enjoys that fact. There are few such creatures in the universe, a being that comprehends good and throughs it aside abandoning it. Outside the realms of fiction there is only one creature that, by these peramites fits the description to qualify.

From what i've seen of the world, the only mosters are mortal men...
