Transition Update, August 9, 2015

Well, it's been a week since I came out to my brother and some of my closest long-time friends. The world hasn't come to an end; nobody has tried to kill me or cause me bodily harm; everyone has been very supportive. I've been feeling quite blessed.

I still haven't outed myself to my kids. We are not really that close, anyway. Our relationship works best if we only see each other a few times a year. we talk on the phone occasionally, but mostly we keep up with each other on Facebook. I feel I owe them at least a phone call before I announce my transition under my "male" ID on Facebook.

Now, on to other things. I stopped smoking cigarettes about two months ago. I "vape" now instead. I'm using vaping to gradually ween myself from nicotine. I started with vaping with 16 mg/ml. I'm now down to 6 mg/ml. I'm also moving away from the "tobacco" flavors. I've found that I really like menthol vapors. I never cared that much for methol cigarettes, but I find at the lower nicotine levels, the menthol tastes much better. I also love this "Manic Mint Chocolate" flavor that the lady at the local vape shop suggested. I guess I like cohcolate better than I like nicotine -- and no calories.

The down side of quitting cigarettes is that my appetite has come back with avengence. I have gained about 15 pounds since I quit cigarettes. I really wouldn't mind the 15 lbs. if I gained it in all the right places, mainly hips and thighs, and of course, the chest. The good news is that some of the weight gain is in the chest area. The bad news is that the rest of the weight gain is in the stomach, very little if any in the hips and thighs, where I really need it. I've decided I need to get some exercise into my daily routine. I was going to wait until the fall when the South Texas weather is not so oppressively hot, but I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and start getting up early to get the walking done before the heat of the day is upon it.

Oh well, what's a girl to do?
