  • OK, I went out last night! With confidence in my makeup looks and a nice outfit (striped skirt, red jacket), I picked up a take-out order two towns over, 20 miles round trip in a 1-ton cargo van...it was 830PM.

Nervous getting out of my neighborhood (everyone knows that van). Nervous about police stopping me for???? or a minor car accident? Felt completely normal in the clothes I was wearing, though. Certainly not a "muted" look, so it might attract attention to myself...oh, dear....

  • A five-year-old may be the UK’s youngest transgender person recognised by the NHS, with parents who say they will “leave it up to him to decide what he wants to do”.
Born Zach Avery but now living as a girl, the Daily Telegraph reports that he was diagnosed by the NHS as having Gender Identity Disorder at age four.
Mother Theresa Avery said: “He just turned round to me one day when he was three and said: ‘Mummy, I’m a girl’. I assumed he was just going through a phase and just left it at that.
“But then it got serious and he would become upset if anyone referred to him as a boy....  more

After being misgendered* in class by my teacher earlier that morning, I had already spent a good five minutes hiding out and crying silent tears in a bathroom that most folks on campus would wrongly think I shouldn’t have access to. This day was headed for disaster from the start.
Some people might make the false claim that Harper is a safe space for all – that there is no bullying or prejudice, and that all are welcome.
As a transgender* persyn – more specifically, a genderqueer*, primarily butch* transwomyn – I live in a world that is inherently unsafe, uninviting, and unfortunately cruel if you do not conform to the rigid expectations of the gender binary*. It is not my responsibility to make sure that you are not a bigot, but I will give you a piece of my mind if you’re acting like one....  more
  • Hi girls, guys, and variations thereupon. I'm in need of a little advice, and you lot seem to have your heads screwed on and are better informed than anywhere else I have found, so I was hoping I could prevail upon you all for a few moments of your time?

Quick potted history; Been trans all my life to one degree or another, it's a bit like the tides of the sea, it comes and goes, but is always there. Last week, for the first time ever, I became Katy 'properly'. Dressed to look female, make-up, choice of hair, photo's. It was fabulous and had a huge, huge impact on me. I've always felt like I could concievably be transexual, but have been scared of what that could mean which is, I guess, pretty normal. When I looked in that mirror, it seemed like everything finally made sense.

  • I know I've never been the most active woman on this board; I tend to participate in spurts.  But, I've always called it home when it comes to my female life.  I know I can come here and get a perspective on the realities of transitioning and living as a woman, as opposed to the fantasy world of fetishism (not that such bothers me, just not my thing).

For the last several months, I've been working away from home on a contract job.  This is not dissimilar to when I worked in Saudi Arabia.  OTOH, it is completely different.  In Saudi, I couldn't really live as a woman, though I did my best inside my apartment. Here, though, I have lived nearly every moment outside of work as a woman.  I have started going to the grocery store, renting movies, general shopping - all as a woman.  This is the most liberated I have felt in my entire life.

  • Hi everyone,
Here are some of my favorite online shopping links for really quality merchandise. I must warn you that you have to sign up, but some of the deals are fantastic. I have had great success with all three of these sites except for Beyond The Rack, and they are really slow in getting the products to you, like about a month.....I really wonder about this, are they in the 21st century.

  • Hi Robin,
My god Robin, you are way ahead of me when I first went out to a store. This was many yrs ago but I will cut this story short, the whole story is posted some where in the forums.
But I got ready, drove to a dress store, pulled up in front and was just about ready to get out feeling really good about myself. Now this car pulls up next to me and a lady starts to get out, looks into my car, screams, yes screamed and got back into her car and sped off. Thinking that I am sure the police will be shortly on there way, I sped off, with a very destroyed ego.
Gawd, I am so glad you had a great experience, and it's just gets better, and soon you will not even give it a second thought. Like Traci said, confidence, and in my case...I had to get a clue on how to do makeup and use the proper wig....  more
