Humanist marriage

See this article in today's Guardian for another example of discrimination against the LGBT community. Humanist marriages do not have the same legal status as civil or religious marriages. Essentially these are not covered by the law relating to weddings, offering more freedom in some ways (a humanist marriage can take place anywhere rather than in specified premises), but fewer protections in others.

Why is this relevant to the LGBT community? Because the 2021 census found that 63% of lesbian, gay and bisexual people have "no religion" – about twice the rate of straight people. This makes us much more likely to opt for a humanist rather than a religious ceremony. The government knows that the law is discriminatory and has pledged to change it, but nothing has happened yet. I cannot imagine this government doing anything to help us.

It doesn't affect me personally. But in our community, the pain of one is the pain of all.
