Hi Casandra,
If you are having problems - you didn't mention what kind - I would guess it is being caused by Kernel modules for your old motherboard chipset being incompatible with the new Asus board chipset etc ... Most of the other software installed should run fine as the AMD 64 is 32 bit backward compatable.
In any case, to get the best out of your new 64 bit system (very nice btw) I would recommend a new kernel or recompiling the existing one. This will also allow you to get your ATA working. There should be no need to re-install once the Kernel is configured correctly for the new hardware.
If you are feeling brave the best way to do this is manually. The Kernel source code can be downloaded here:
http://www.kernel.org/
and the procedure to follow is here:
http://www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.html
(Very Detailed)
or I prefer:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Linux+XFS-HOWTO/
(Steps 3.1, 3.2, 3,3)
The other way - and to be honest, the easiest - would be to use Suse's package manager to download and install a new kernel rpm.
Hugs,
Katherine
P.S. Well you did ask after all
sounds like a module problem alright, mind you i had to boot the rescue system to get mine to switch on without its broadband connection.. linux works well but dosn't respond well to setup changes its not been informed of in writing a few months in advance.
Am thinking of switching to SuSE 64 meself ona new machine in a few weeks, should make a few crunching problems i have go away i hope.
