So, after several years of putting it off, im finally in a position to start sorting myself out. I've booked an appointment with a counselor in London who specialises in gender issues (after quite a bit of searching). I've only ever spoken about how I feel online, so im really scared as well, which doesn't help

Does anyone have any advice about how what to talk about in an initial meeting, or even just what your own first meeting was like?

All i can really say sarah, is just be yourself!. I was in your situation a few years ago when i first saw a counsellor......scared & not knowing what to expect but i need not have worried cos my counsellor was great.
She really made me feel at ease & after 2 appts she told me that there was nothing wrong mentally. She then referred me to a psychotherapist she knew. He was very thorough in what he did cos he went through my entire history from when i was little, Teens, 20's,30's right up to now & at no point did i feel uneasy in talking to him about that. After 2hrs with him,he was more than happy with what i'd told him & right there & then he referred me to Charing Cross ( Main GID clinic in the UK) & i am progressing very well. Like i said, just be yourself & i'm sure you'll be just fine.

    GOOD LUCK!!!
