Hi everyone, i'm new here.
I'd say macy's is my favorite, I go near closing (i don't shop en-femme.. :-( ), i'm more worried about the other patrons in the store than the staff. Macy's staff is awesome! I've bought a beautiful blue satin evening gown, the cashier was so nice- never patronising, just very sweet. She told me she though the dress was very pretty ( it was), but was ultra professional. I'm a Chicago person, but if this is how New York (macy's HQ) works, well, I love NY too!
Lord and taylor is okay, lots of cute dresses, but the cashier was a little cool. She was a little slavic, and it might have just been the general aloofness of people from that area, but she was in no way rude or uncomfortable.
I managed to get her 3 times in a row, i can't wait to get another cashier. I got some PJ's from L&T- men's styled women's sating gre PJs, and the cashier either thought i was a really cool husband or a very tasteful CD.
I also got weddign dress from a local small bridal shop. They are since out of business, but i went in right before they closed, told them what I wanted, and returned the next day at opening.
Carmen had a number of samples for me to try, I made up a story about halloween, but she knew it was BS, and she didn't care or push the issue. If you are polite and considerate, you get it back. She helped me try a few gowns, then had to do some business... I could not reach the zipper of the dress so i was stuck in one of the dresses for a good 45 minutes. She thought that was kind of funny, I of course got that gown, the whole experience was super.
The best thing to do is simply ask ahead of time. It shows you have concern for the seller's business, and if the seller is cool with TG business (90% are) you have made a really good ally.
I also got a pink satin ball gown prom dress from JCP, I had to return it and get another size fro another store. The cashier was a young girl, but asked if i wanted to try the dress on to see if it fit. I freaked a little at such an open invitation, (i'm now really embarrassed by that), but again, near closing, people will be very accomodating.
Ebay is also a great place, 90% sellers are super sweet and supportive, the others either say nothing negative or let it be as a simple transaction. Very professional.
it actually boosts my faith in our country- to see so many people adapting and accepting non-traditional clients.
Enough soapbox.
hands down: Macy's.
I recently discovered this clothing store just down the road from me, via my local Women's Institute. I visited their factory shop the other day and wasn't disapointed. I love their country colours and designs - the company is based in the English Lake District and specialises in warm, 'country living' style clothing. I particularly recommend their denim skirts. The pleat at the front is great, meaning I don't have to worry about gaffs and such like. https://www.tulchanonline.co.uk
This post is mostly for us girls who HAVE to order online since our feet are bigger than 12's in womans. I seriously have NEVER seen 13's to 17's available in any department store. Besides online shopping the only way is special order and who has 300 dollars to pay for a single pair of shoes.
I'm about to try http://www.aliexpress.com/ online. It is like a chinese Ebay and yes they are real. Prices are cheap and they have a decent amount of large sizes for those of you like me. I've seen womens sizes go up to 17. The selection takes some digging but they are out there. China has so many stores it is mind blowing. I've honestly yet to buy shoes from them but have bought some costume jewelery and hard wax through them there with no problem other than it takes almost 3 to 4 weeks for your package to arrive. Way cheaper than anything else I found on the web. Make sure you use size conversion charts! China makes things much smaller but many of the links to stores do have coversion charts listed.
Also Blondies Heels for You http://www.heelsforyou.com/shoestore/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=115&sort=20a&page=2#.VKrHbmccTct has reasonable prices.
Jan had turned me onto this site too which has some nice shoes at a fairly reasonable price. http://us.longtallsally.com/c/tall/footwear?bftUrl=%2Fcategory%2Fshop_all%2F
