Tips for the clumsy

I keep poking my eye when I try to put on eyeliner. It was worst with the pencils (ouch! how do other girls do it?) so I got some liquid stuff. I like how it looks better anyway, but it's still really difficult to get it on smooth. I sometimes get a little bit on the surface of my eye, which isn't as bad as it sounds since it doesn't irritate my eye, but having a little blob of black stuff on my cornea isn't the look I'm going for.
And the few times that I've had the liberty to paint my nails have gone somewhat disastrously. No ruined upholstry, fortunately, but I ended up painting a lot more than just my nails.
All these little details! how do the thirteen-year-old G-girls learn it all?

Practice, clean up and re-apply... usually takes me a couple of tries to get it right.

I envy the girl I saw on a plane recently, who applied her makeup perfectly, even while flying w just a compact.

Also several cosmetic websites have hints sections that help.

I think eyeliner has to be the hardest thing next to putting individual lashes on.
