I'd recommend Clinique long last lipstick (can find it on ebay).
Use a lipbrush, miles better than straight from the stick, blot, re-apply, blot again (very lightly blot).
When you need to touch up after eating or drinking or snogging, use the lipbrush!
Buy a good lipbrush - it's essential, I have a nice retractable one which is great for carrying around in the handbag.
You don't need to match the colour with what you're wearing, it just needs to look right on your face. Use something close to the natural lip colour for the day, or anything that is not to striking, and wear whatever makes you feel good for the evening.
I spent a fortune trying different types and colours, Almost always I now only use two colours, Clinique "All Heart" for the day, and "Deep Lacquer" for the evening, a lovely deep red.
For UK girls Body Shop lippy is pretty good too, nice and firm so not easily smudged.
I tried several of the types that are supposed to last forever without the need to re-apply but they just make my lips look dry and crinkly, and to be honest, none of them do what they claim.
One other alternative that I quite like though is Lip Ink, which is more like a temporary stain for the lips with a clear gloss to make them, um, glossy. It's pretty good, but takes a bit of getting used to. If you buy any please tell them Lucy from Kendal recommended it to you!
I do not believe there is any lip product that will not need re-applying after a plate of spareribs and a couple of glasses of wine. So you just need to find what works best for you and re-apply as needed.
And buy a good lipbrush!!!

Definately concur with the lipbrush - and that long last lipstick will last even longer!
