Just what does someone have to do to leave your "old" life behind after all these years?

About 15 minutes ago, I got a phonecall, and I was asked if I was Mr ----------------------- !!! It's years since I was known by that name!!

It turned out to be a "cold-call" from some marketing firm, but Gawd knows how old their records are, if the most recent name they have listed for my number is my old "male" name!

So, although I normally don't speak to "cold-call" people (my normal answer to them is a blast of a very loud whistle that I keep beside the phone! They're wearing a headset, so it really blasts them, and they tend not to call again!), in this instance, I corrected the caller that I wasn't Mr ------------------------- , and, in the meantime found out which company he was calling on behalf of.

I then made his day, by informing him that, as I was on the "Phone Preference List" which Marketing Companies are meant to abide by, and NOT contact those on it, his company would be reported, and that they could expect a fine from the phone operator ............ BT.

But, that was my "bit of fun" with him.

My bigger point is, after all these years, just how many lists are there, where I'm still listed in my old "male" personna?

When will the phone again ring, for me to be asked if I am that person?

Whilst all the "recent" lists, phone book, electoral roll, etc., have me properly listed, just where, and how many "old" lists are still out there, being used?

In reality, I suppose there's nothing I can actually do about it, but it just annoys me that, even after years of living as the real me, I can still be refered to by my old, male, personna!

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr !

  • Briana Purcell I mark 'like' since this is one of those things in life where any of us trying to be who we declare ourselves to be will face. Worse is the fact that corporations and the like can send us stuff, use and sell our name at will and we are not compensated...  more
