My first week at University

It seems like only yesterday when I wrote my last Blog about visiting Sugar and Spiced a dressing service in Chandlersford. Well since that day when I truly found me; so much has happened. I have moved to Worcester and started a voluntary job as a care worker in a lovely care home in Kidderminster, and now I have started university. This blog is a short account of my first day at uni. I want to tell you about this day because if I can do this at 51 then so can you J at whatever age you are it’s never too late to follow your dreams.

    My first days at Uni

As with all new girls I was nervously waiting outside the class room scanning the faces of my new classmates. There were some younger faces and also more mature women like me and heavily outnumber there were also a couple of men. After what seemed an age but was only 5 minutes the lecturer arrived and we all trouped into the room. I had been near the back of the queue so tables where filling up rapidly when I finally got through the door. I found an empty place and sat down next to a pleasant looking woman who was wearing a green pullover. We smiled at each other. She did give me a slightly quizzical look but that soon passed to a smile again. After explaining rooms and other admin tasks the lecturer asked us to form into pairs as we would be introducing each other to the class. I found out that my fellow student was called Lynn and lots of other stuff about her. She also found out about me and once we had sufficient information about each other we introduced each other to the class. One slight snag occurred Lynn started out with “this is Rose she was recently living in Malta”. Then she slipped and said ‘he’ was working in IT” she paused and resumed her introduction but after that always referred to me in the female gender so no biggie. After the intros we did a number of exercises to break the ice. I found out quite a lot more about my fellow students and started to feel more relaxed. Later we had a room change and a short break I left the room alone and wandered in the direction of the coffee shop feeling a little left out; when another student asked me if I wanted to join her and her friend for a coffee. I was delighted and happy to accept her invitation. The three of us chatted away and started to form a real friendship so now there were the three of us Lynne Sian and me Rose. We had a fun time in fresher fair and worked together through the other, getting to know-you activities that had been laid on for us. That afternoon the three of us walked back into town on our way home chatting away as we went it was so nice to be with the girls. Next morning as arranged we met up and walked into uni together we had a lovely if very wet day and as before walked back into town I continued into Newlook and got some sensible shoes my converse were not best suited to the wet Worcestershire weather and then went on home. The next day we met up again and then because we had a long free session we all walked back into town at lunchtime and the girls all came to mine for a coffee. The rest of the day passed very fast. As we walked back home from the Uni we arranged to meet up before our next class for a chat and coffee.

That was my first week I learnt two valuable lessons firstly I am in the right place I am so so happy everything is going so well I feel so very very comfortable in my own skin. And secondly and more importantly if you are true to yourself and believe in who you are then others will believe in you. I am looking forward to the my studies and very hopeful for the future. Thank you so much for reading this xx

Lots of love a happy studious Rose xx J
